Fox Business Network Leads CNBC For Day-Long Business News


FOX Business Network (FBN) closed the month of January as the highest rated business network during the critical business day hours (9:30 AM-5 PM/ET) reaching 209,000 viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. 

FBN programs including Larry Kudlow’s eponymous Kudlow (weekdays, 4 PM/ET), market-open program Varney & Co. (weekdays, 9 AM-12 PM/ET), and The Evening Edit (weekdays, 5 PM/ET) all outranked their competition with viewers for the month. Additionally, all of the network’s business day programs placed among the top 20 shows in business news viewers.

Once again, FBN’s post-market program Kudlow drove ratings with the highest audience in business television, crushing its CNBC competition for the 28th consecutive month. The program netted 293,000 viewers, a whopping 57% advantage over CNBC’s Closing Bell. For the 23rd straight month, Stuart Varney’s three-hour market-open program Varney & Co. outranked Squawk on the Street delivering 273,000 total viewers, a 25% advantage over CNBC’s 218,000 viewers. Additionally, Elizabeth MacDonald’s The Evening Edit nabbed a 4% advantage over Fast Money (FBN: 174,000 vs. CNBC: 167,000 viewers).



Opening the day with pre-market coverage, Mornings with Maria (weekdays, 6-9 AM/ET) bested CNBC’s Squawk Box during the 7 and 8 AM hours and averaged nearly 100,000 viewers across its three hours. CAVUTO: Coast to Coast with Neil Cavuto (weekdays, 12 PM/ET; 171,000 viewers), The Claman Countdown (weekdays, 3 PM/ET; 166,000 viewers), Making Money with Charles Payne (weekdays 2 PM/ET; 149,000 viewers) and The Big Money Show (weekdays, 1 PM/ET; 144,000 viewers) all placed among the top 15 shows on business television with total viewers. The Bottom Line (weekdays, 6 PM/ET), co-hosted by Dagen McDowell and Sean Duffy, delivered 133,000 viewers, while Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street (Fridays, 7-7:30 PM/ET) and Barron’s Roundtable (Fridays, 7:30-8 PM/ET) delivered 73,000 and 50,000 viewers respectively.

COPS (Thursdays and Fridays, 8-11 PM/ET), which aired as part of the network’s primetime lineup, continued its reign in January, outshining CNBC with viewers and the 25-54 and 35-64 demos in primetime. With double-digit advantages over CNBC (26% with viewers, 96% with 25-54 demo, 44% with 35-64 demo), the program averaged 155,000 viewers, 55,000 with the 25-54 demo and 75,000 with the 35-65 demo.

FBN nabbed four of the top 10 shows in all of cable news with median income in the 25-54 demo this month. Notably, Barron’s Roundtable was the number one program delivering a median income of $187,700. Mornings with Maria, Varney & Co. and Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street closed the month delivering an audience with an income of $146,500 or higher.
