Castillo, who reportedly had breast cancer and had not been in the industry for some time, was remembered as a leading figure in the Tejano radio field.
In a Facebook video, friend Jonny Ramirez of KLEY Tejano 95.7 San Antonio called her “the first lady of Tejano in San Antonio.”
“The KXTN family has lost one of our own,” posted Naomi Garza. “It was an honor to work with such great talent. Your smooth sultry voice and that laugh will never be forgotten.”
JoJo Herrera, a former co-worker posted: “She had breast cancer and lost her battle today. Please those of you, like me, that worked with her at KXTN 107.5 back in the day just keep her in your prayers.”
“I’m so grateful that we had a chance to speak briefly last week,” added Abby Chavarrilla, who has worked for several stations in Texas, also on Facebook. “She was an amazing talent and an even more amazing human being. Que Diosito la tenga en su gloria.”
“I worked with Lady Di when I was about 19 years old when I was a DJ with KXTN Tejano 107,” Yami Virgin, a reporter for KABB Fox San Antonio, said in a post.
“Lady Di was an amazing mentor to me,” Virgin added. “Selena, Emilio, David Lee, Jay Perez, Elida y Avante, Fama, Los Palominos — these were the people we called friends. It was such a great ride, and with people like Lady Di, we opened the way for future female DJs in a male-dominated world.”
