Cumulus Media New Country 96.3 (KSCS-FM), partnered with Tango Charities, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, to host a series of events called “Hawkeye and Michelle Feed The City – Making Meals for People in Need,” which created 22,659 meals for the hungry in Dallas-Fort Worth during the month of June.
New Country 96.3 announced the partnership on Tuesday, May 31st, asking New Country 96.3 listeners to volunteer and provide bread, lunch meat, mustard, chips, tangerines and ziplock bags to help make meals for DFW food pantries. If the listener signed up on the New Country 96.3 website and showed up at their designated volunteer event, they received two tickets to the station’s upcoming Private Show with Dan + Shay at Legacy Hall. The only way to get these tickets was to volunteer, as they are not available for sale.
New Country 96.3 kicked off the series of volunteer events on Saturday, June 3rd at Chili’s Grill & Bar in Prosper, TX. The second event was held on Saturday, June 10th at BoomerJack’s Grill in Bedford, TX, followed by an event on Saturday, June 17th at Concrete Cowboy in Fort Worth. New Country 96.3 then announced a Pop-Up Feed the City Event at HERO by HG in Downtown Dallas on Wednesday, June 21st. Through these four successful events, New Country 96.3 and its generous listeners helped make 22,659 meals for Tango Charities.
All the meals made at the Feed The City events were donated to local area food pantries the day they were made. Additional supplies were also donated directly to the food pantries.
Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay said: "It's going to be fun and we're going to have a blast. We are excited to be a part of this great cause.”
Michelle Rodriguez, Co-Host, “Hawkeye in the Morning” on New Country 96.3, said:
“When we first started talking about this idea, we never imagined the impact it would have on everyone involved. We got to hear stories that have inspired entire families to get involved with our great partner Tango Charities for years to come. We were blown away by our listeners, an extension of our family. They showed up ready to help out those in need.”
Mark ‘Hawkeye’ Louis, Host, “Hawkeye in the Morning” on New Country 96.3, said: “We've heard multiple stories from teachers about students who purposely flunk at the end of the year so they can get into summer school and be part of the summer school lunch program. It really illustrates the need in our community.”
Hawkeye added: “A huge thank you to Dan + Shay for signing on to this effort from the beginning. Their involvement was key to the success of “Hawkeye and Michelle Feed The City.”
Nick Marino Jr., Chief Hunger Officer, Tango Charities, said: "I cannot express enough gratitude to our community and every volunteer who participated in our 'Hawkeye & Michelle Feed The City' initiative in partnership with New Country 96.3. The collective action has produced over 22,000 meals for children in need throughout North Texas. This is a significant milestone for Tango Charities and a testament to the transformative power of a unified effort. Reducing hunger, one meal at a time remains our unwavering mission, and each meal served is a step forward in this journey. The ability to reward volunteers with a concert by Dan + Shay is just the cherry on top. Together, we are making a difference, and I couldn't be prouder of what we have achieved."
