TV Ratings: Football, Dramas Lead


As is traditional in the fall, NBC's Sunday night football telecast dominated the weekly television rankings, in this case a game between Cincinnati and Baltimore

“World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as America’s No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.407 million), Adults 25-54 (1.201 million) and Adults 18-49 (820,000), for the week of Oct. 3, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (6.529 million, 1.072 million and 732,000, respectively) by 878,000 Total Viewers, by 129,000 Adults 25-54 and by 88,000 Adults 18-49.

“World News Tonight” has won the last 201 of 202 weeks in Total Viewers and 130 of the last 132 in Adults 25-54.


“World News Tonight” was the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.407 million) on all of broadcast and cable television (excluding sports).

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.939 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 7th straight year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.782 million) by 1.157 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.750 million) by 3.189 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 4th season in a row.


📺LATE NIGHT TV

"Gutfeld!" averaged 2.2 million viewers to outdraw ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and NBC’s "The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon."

📺CABLE TV

Fox News has now spent 40 consecutive weeks as the most-watched on all of basic cable (not just cable news) in the 24-hour daypart—and 86 consecutive weeks as the most-watched cable news network.

According to TV Newser citing live plus same day data from Nielsen in total day (6 a.m.-6 a.m. ET), Fox News averaged 1.47 million total day viewers and 197,000 adults 25-54. The 1.47 million is -2% from what the network averaged during the previous week (Sept. 26)—and the 197,000 in A25-54 is -10% from that same week.

Fox News also averaged 2.25 million total viewers in primetime this past week, +4% from the prior week and No. 2 on all of basic cable behind a Monday Night Football, college football and MLB Playoffs-driven ESPN, which averaged 3.26 million viewers in the daypart. FNC also averaged 280,000 adults 25-54 in primetime, -6% from the previous week and No. 3 on basic cable overall behind ESPN (1.34 million) and ESPN2 (325,000).

In terms of individual programming, The Five is the most-watched cable news show for the seventh consecutive week. The news talk panel program averaged 3.37 million total viewers during the week of Oct. 3, up slightly from the prior week. Tucker Carlson Tonight is second place in total viewers (3.245 million at 8 p.m.), with Jesse Watters Primetime (2.9 million at 7 p.m.), Hannity (2.73 million at 9 p.m.) and Special Report with Bret Baier (2.50 million viewers at 6 p.m.) round out the top five.

Fox News is home to the week’s top 9 cable news shows in total viewers. MSNBC’s 9 p.m. hour ranks No. 10 (1.73 million).


📺COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The SEC on CBS topped the ratings charts for a fourth-straight week as Alabama’s primetime win over Texas A&M scored the fourth-largest audience of the season. Ratings and viewership still trailed the same matchup in the same window last year.
