D-C Radio: WJFK's Chris Russell Busted For Chatting While Driving

Chris Russell
Washington, D.C., weekend host and columnist Chris Russell was talking on his cell phone with colleague Chad Dukes on WJFK 106.7 The Fan during Dukes' show Monday afternoon when police sirens interrupted their discussion, reports USAToday.

“Dukes, I think I’m getting pulled over," Russell says on an audio clip posted by the station. "This is awesome.”

Many localities have enacted laws banning drivers from using hand-held phones while driving. Russell happened to be in one of them. And "I'm doing a radio interview" apparently is not a valid excuse.

This kind of thing happens a lot more than it should.

AwfulAnnouncing.com compiled a list of recent instances of radio guests getting pulled over while on the air – including NBC Sports pro football writer Peter King, who was busted earlier this month while on the Dan Patrick Show.

However, Russell is at least the third person who's been pulled over since 2010 while doing an interview with this same radio station, WJFK-FM.

Russell later tweeted the traffic violation carries a $500 fine, which he hoped the station would cover. However, he later admitted on-air he was allowed to go with only a warning.
