NJ Radio: Christie Comment Results In Corvette Loaner

WKXW 101.1 FM news director Eric Scott was loaned a new Corvette this month, and he has New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to thank for it.

According to Politico, Scott hosted the likely presidential candidate in-studio on Feb. 25. After mentioning that he didn't get paid much, Christie started urging the show’s sponsor, the Lester Glenn Auto Group, to give Scott a free car. One caller recommended a Corvette, and Christie suggested a dark blue.

Last week, Lester Glenn president Adam Kraushaar showed up at WKXW-FM studios, owned by Townsquare Media.  He presented Scott with the keys to a dark blue 2015 Corvette Stingray. Scott called it the “sweetest ride of my life."

While it didn't come directly from the governor's office, Kraushaar's gift does seem to create a potential conflict of interest for WKXW-FM. According to Politico, Scott is one of a handful of New Jersey media personalities with access to the governor. Kraushaar, meanwhile, contributed to Christie's 2013 re-election bid.

On Monday, Lester Glenn vice president of operations John Perillo Sr. says that the car was just a temporary loaner and would be picked up at the end of this month. “We didn’t give it to him,” Perillo said. “He’s just using it for the month, basically.”

Alex Berkett, the executive vice president of Townsquare Media, defended Scott's acceptance of the gift, calling it the result of "an unsolicited humorous comment made by Governor Christie."
