Holland Radio: Red Kingman OUT At WHTC

Red Kingman
Red Kingman may be off the airwaves for a year -- at least in West Michigan.

According to mlive.com, the 20-year radio personality says a non-compete clause in his contract with former employer WHTC 1450 AM keeps him from working for a competitor within a 50-mile radius of the Holland station for 12 months.

The station terminated the 54-year-old Kingman following an airing of a Miller Light commercial parody that included a profanity during The Morning Grind on Sept. 14. He co-hosted the weekend show with Mike Johnson as a contractor.

WHTC Brand Manager Brent Allen wouldn’t discuss why Kingman was terminated.

Last year, Kingman drew the ire of the Lakeshore Diversity Alliance and others when he posted anti-Muslim jokes on his blog.

Kingman say he thought the piece was written by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, and pulled it after some complained it was offensive. The incident didn’t result in the station taking any sanctions against him, he said.

Despite his firing, Kingman says he is grateful to his former employer for his nearly 10 years working at the station.
