Fox News's Chris Wallace said presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should sit down for an interview and take tough questions, one day after the "Fox News Sunday" host's interview with President Trump was aired.
“The fact is, the president is out there. He's out there in this broiling heat with me for an hour, took all the questions," Wallace told anchor Bret Baier on Monday. "You can like his answers or dislike them, but he had answers, and Joe Biden hasn’t faced that kind of scrutiny, hasn’t faced that kind of exposure."
“You’ve got to feel at some point he’s going to come out from the basement," Wallace continued. "He’s going to have to be more exposed and take questions just as tough as the ones I asked this president.
“He’s going to have to do it with a bunch of people and, of course, he’s going to have those three debates with the president and you know that the president can handle himself in these debates. I think there is an open question there, can Joe Biden do the same?”
Baier said he’s asked Biden for an interview on his own show, The Hill reports.

| Himan Brown |
A recipient of the American Broadcast Pioneer and Peabody Awards, Brown was inducted in 1990s into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
Brown produced The Adventures of the Thin Man, The Affairs of Peter Salem, Bulldog Drummond, CBS Radio Mystery Theater, City Desk, Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon, The General Mills Radio Adventure Theater, Grand Central Station, Green Valley, USA, The Gumps, Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Joyce Jordan, M.D., Marie, the Little French Princess, The NBC Radio Theater, The Private Files of Rex Saunders, Terry and the Pirates and numerous daytime soap operas.
When television arrived, Brown produced 26 episodes of the syndicated Inner Sanctum TV series, plus a daytime show, Morning Matinee. Realizing that "all these guys making TV, they have to have a set," he profited by acquiring the studios in Chelsea; they were used for 35 years by New York TV production firms.
Through his non-profit educational foundation, Brown produced They Were Giants, radio programs dramatizing the lives of such literary figures as Walt Whitman and H. G. Wells, and We, The Living, fact-based dramas about the lives of senior citizens.
After the end of most network radio programming in the early 60’s Brown persisted with such series as the CBS Radio Mystery Theater, thereby keeping the art of radio drama alive for another generation.
➦In 1980...WMCA 570 AM, New York, hosted a reunion of The Good Guys featuring Joe O'Brien, Harry Harrison, Dan Daniels, Jack Spector and B Mitchel Reed.
In 1960, WMCA began promoting itself by stressing its on-air personalities, who were collectively known as The Good Guys. Led by program director Ruth Meyer, the first woman to hold the position in New York City radio, this was the era of the high-profile Top 40 disc jockey with an exuberant personality aimed at a certain audience segment.
In the early 1960s, the top 40 format was still young, and the field was crowded in New York City. Two major 50,000-watt stations, WMGM 1050 (now WEPN) and 1010 WINS, had battled each other, playing pop music for years. Then in 1960, 77WABC joined the action. Ultimately, it was WMCA's earnest competition with rival WABC that forced WMGM (in early 1962) and then WINS (in spring 1965) to abandon Top 40.

I grew up in New Jersey listening to Philly radio, and it’s special to me that my mom/family/friends will be able to get in their cars and hear the show. However, I believe a wellness check is in order for all who helped make this happen: Amber Miller, Derrick Corbett, Thea Mitchem, Tom Poleman, Brad Hardin and Lisa Worden. Thanks to them for giving me the pen to cross this goal off my bucket list! Who says you can’t come home again?”
“The show’s aesthetic is such a great fit for our listeners and embodies the ‘Philly attitude,’” said Amber Miller, Program Director for ALT 104.5. “We can’t wait to get the ball rolling and have our listeners join fun with ‘The Woody Show’ leading ALT 104.5’s winning lineup of talent.”

Bob Costas Joins CNN As Sports Commentator
Sportscaster Bob Costas is joining CNN as a contributor, providing commentary on a range of sports-related issues, including the challenges presented by the coronavirus crisis and on other society-related issues, reports Deadline.
CNN President Jeff Zucker said in a statement, “Bob Costas is a legendary, respected voice across the spectrum of sports and beyond. As the world continues to change amid the coronavirus pandemic, we are confident that Bob’s insightful analysis will help our viewers better understand what the future holds as the sports and teams we love evolve to meet this moment.”
Costas was at NBC Sports from 1980 to 2019, and he hosted the network’s Olympics coverage for decades. He also hosted seven Super Bowl telecasts, seven World Series and 10 NBA finals. He also hosted the late-night show Later with Bob Costas, from 1988 to 1994. Mike Tirico took over Olympics hosting duties starting with the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea.
Costas left NBC by what he said was mutual agreement to end his contract early. His exit came after he was dropped from the network’s 2018 Super Bowl coverage after he had been continually outspoken about the role of football in brain injuries, according to an interview with ESPN.
In a statement, Costas said, “CNN’s willingness to devote time and attention to sports related topics, makes it a good fit for me.”

Atlanta Radio: Cumulus Helping Grow GA Business
CUMULUS MEDIA announces that its “Grow My GA Business” initiative, launched in late March, has donated over $1 million in creative services and airtime on three of its popular Atlanta radio stations to 375 Atlanta area small businesses since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Grow My GA Business” provides free creative services and radio time on WWWQ-FM/Q997 Atlanta, WNNX-FM/Rock 100.5, and WKHX/New Country 101 FIVE to select family-owned and locally operated businesses struggling to keep their doors open during the economic downturn. To date, Cumulus Atlanta’s “Grow My GA Business” daily features have promoted the 375 participating businesses through hourly 30-second live-read commercials in prime dayparts on each of the three stations.
Sean Shannon, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Atlanta, said the effort assists small businesses that are the lifeblood of local economies. “The unprecedented disruption has left small businesses the most vulnerable of all,” Shannon noted. “At Cumulus Atlanta, we hold as one of our core values that we are a driver of small business success. So, we felt in this environment we should put our money where our values are. I’m incredibly proud of our team, from our creative to production to the personalities who donated their voices to endorse these small businesses.”
Iron Brothers BBQ and Catering is just one of the businesses that benefitted from a day of advertising and reached out to say thanks. Co-owner Craig Stark attributed an immediate uptick in business to being featured on the Cumulus stations on May 26.
“The response has been amazing, and we got a lot of good repeat customers out of it,” said Stark. “The day our spot was on the air, we had at least 10 new customers come in and say: ‘We heard you on the radio. We didn’t even know you were down here.’”
Station promos drive businesses to growmyGAbusiness.com. Cumulus Atlanta created the web site to not only capture information about a business that could be used in its spots, but also to help Atlanta-area consumers quickly find information about each featured business. The effort is ongoing.
“I want to see every one of these businesses standing and healthy when we get to the other side of this,” added Shannon. “It’s a mission for Cumulus Atlanta now.”

The Rundown: Coronavirus Deaths Pass 600,000 Worldwide
DEATHS PASS 140,000 IN U.S.: The number of deaths from the coronavirus has now passed 600,000 worldwide, and 140,000 in the U.S., with more than 140,500 as of early this morning, according to Johns Hopkins University's count, and more than 3,773,000 confirmed cases in the U.S. Growing countries of concern include South Africa and India, and Brazil continues to be a major hotspot, second in both deaths and confirmed cases only to the U.S., which leads the world in both.
Within the U.S,. Florida reported 12,478 new cases, the fourth time since the start of the pandemic that it's had more than 12,000 new cases in one day. Miami-Dade, County, which is now the U.S. epicenter, has seen a 40 percent increase in hospitalizations in the past two weeks, and of Florida's 9,351 hospitalizations, more than one-third are in Miami-Dade and neighboring Broward counties. Texas reported more than 10,000 new cases for the fifth day in a row, and Arizona reported record deaths for Saturday. Amid the weeks-long coronavirus surge across the South and West, President Trump was asked in a Fox News interview Sunday about his repeated statements since February that the virus would just go away. Trump said, "I'll be right eventually. I will be right eventually. You know I said, 'It's going to disappear.' I'll say it again."
Top GOPers to Meet with Trump on Fifth Coronavirus Aid Package: Congressional Republican leaders Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy are set to meet with President Trump today to confer on a fifth coronavirus aid package. The $1 trillion Senate package is expected to include $75 billion to help schools reopen, another round of $1,200 stimulus checks to Americans, reduced unemployment benefits -- with the $600-a-week boost to regular unemployment set to expire at the end of the month -- and five-year liability protection for businesses against coronavirus lawsuits, which has been a McConnell priority. However, there are Republican divisions with the White House. The Washington Post reported that the administration wants the relief package to phase out federal funding for coronavirus testing and contract tracing, as well as money for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, which the GOP doesn't favor, and Trump is also pushing for a payroll tax break, which many Republican senators oppose.
The Democratic-led House passed its own new $3 trillion coronavirus relief package back in May, which the GOP-led Senate has not taken up. Its provisions include $75 billion for testing and contact tracing, $100 billion to help schools safely reopen, and $1 trillion for cash-strapped states to pay essential workers and prevent layoffs.
Bahamas Bans Americans: Americans will no longer be allowed to enter the Bahamas amid a surging coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said on Sunday. The ban comes three weeks after the Bahamas reopened to travelers, and Minnis said there's been a surge of cases in the country since. Flights and ships from other countries won't be allowed to enter the Bahamas either, with exceptions for those from Canada, the U.K. and the European Union. The U.S. is the largest tourism market for the Bahamas.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum sued Homeland Security and the Marshals Service on Friday, seeking a restraining order, saying unidentified federal agents have grabbed people off the streets in Portland, quote, "without warning or explanation, without a warrant, and without providing any way to determine who is directing this action." President Trump, who has blasted the protests, tweeted yesterday, "We are trying to help Portland, not hurt it. Their leadership has, for months, lost control of the anarchists and agitators."
➤FEDERAL JUDGE'S SON KILLED, HUSBAND WOUNDED BY GUNMAN AT HER HOME: The 20-year-old son of a federal judge was killed and her husband wounded by a gunman dressed in a FedEx uniform who opened fire on the North Brunswick, New Jersey, home of U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas. Salas wasn't harmed. Initial reports said that Salas' son, Daniel Anderl, opened the door with his father, attorney Mark Anderl, right behind him, and the gunman immediately started firing before fleeing. It's not known if the assailant was an actual Fedex employee or was posing as one. U.S. Marshals and the FBI are investigating that attack. CNN cited a source as saying law enforcement hadn't been aware of any threats against Salas.
➤TRUMP WON'T COMMIT TO ACCEPTING RESULTS OF NOVEMBER ELECTION: President Trump refused yesterday to commit to accepting the results of the November election, saying in a Fox News Sunday interview, "I have to see. No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no, and I didn’t last time either." Trump made similar statements before the 2016 election that he might not honor the results if he lost. Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's campaign said in response, "The American people will decide this election. And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House."
Also during the interview, Trump was critical of Pentagon leadership for being in favor of changing the names of military bases that honor Confederate military leaders. He said, "I don't care what the military says," and questioned, "[W]hat are we going to name it? We’re going to name it after the Reverend Al Sharpton?" Additionally, he again defended the Confederate flag, saying, "They love their flag, it represents the South, they like the South. That’s freedom of speech. And you know, the whole thing with 'cancel culture,' we can’t cancel our whole history. We can't forget that the North and the South fought. We have to remember that, otherwise we'll end up fighting again."
➤ORGANIZERS: TENS OF THOUSANDS TO WALK OFF THE JOB TODAY IN 'STRIKE FOR BLACK LIVES': Organizers of what's being called the "Strike for Black Lives" say that tens of thousands of people are set to walk off the job today in more than two dozen U.S. cities in a national strike in protest of systemic racism and economic inequality. Labor unions and social and racial justice organizers will take part in a range of planned actions.
Ash-Lee Henderson, an organizer with the Movement for Black Lives, said, "The Strike for Black Lives is a moment of reckoning for corporations that have long ignored the concerns of their Black workforce and denied them better working conditions, living wages and healthcare."
➤RAHM WINS MEMORIAL, BECOMES WORLD'S TOP-RANKED GOLFER: Spain's Jon Rahm won the Memorial Sunday at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio, and the victory moved him to the top spot in the rankings as the world's Number 1 golfer. Rahm won by three strokes over American Ryan Palmer, finishing at 9-under 279. Tiger Woods, playing in his first competition since February 16th, tied for 40th place.
DILLON WINS CUP RACE AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY BEFORE LIMITED FANS: Austin Dillon beat rookie teammate Tyler Reddick at Texas Motor Speedway yesterday in the first 1-2 NASCAR Cup finish in nine years for Richard Childress Racing. It was Dillon's third career win and first since the start of the 2018 season. The race was held before a limited number of fans, an estimated 15,000 to 20,000, who were spread out in the stands. There were also about 20,000 fans at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee last Wednesday for the All-Star race. Both were the most fans at a sporting event in the U.S. since sports have slowly begun returning from their coronavirus shutdowns.Soak it all in, @austindillon3! 🏁 pic.twitter.com/PpianZJWdR— NASCAR (@NASCAR) July 19, 2020
➤BLUE JAYS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PLAY: After Canada denied the Toronto Blue Jays' request to play at their home stadium, the Rogers Centre, because they'd have to travel back and forth to the U.S., where coronavirus cases are surging, the Blue Jays are now looking for a ballpark where they can play, pitcher Anthony Bass said Sunday. Bass said he and his teammates really want it to be a major league ballpark, but among the places the Blue Jays have been considering are its Florida training facility, and the Buffalo, New York, stadium that's home to its Triple-A affiliate. Toronto is scheduled to play its first home game on July 29th. The other 29 MLB teams plan to play in their home ballparks, without fans. Meanwhile, MLB began playing exhibition games this weekend, with three games on Saturday and four Sunday. The shortened 60-game season will start on Thursday (July 23rd).In another blow to sporting events in the age of coronavirus, Canada is not allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to play home games in Toronto due to the pandemic, according to a statement from the country's minister of immigration, refugees, and citizenship. https://t.co/fEr9TzRHYp— CNN (@CNN) July 19, 2020
➤NFL PLAYERS ASKING LEAGUE TO ADDRESS HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS: With NFL training camp set to begin for rookies this week and for everyone else next week, several NFL players were publicly asking the league yesterday to address health and safety concerns. The NFL told teams Saturday that training camps will open on time even though discussions with the players' union about coronavirus testing and related protocols are still going on. Among the players speaking out on social media Sunday, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, whose wife, Ciara, is pregnant, wrote: "We want to play football but we also want to protect our loved ones."We need Football! We need sports! We need hope! The NFL’s unwillingness to follow the recommendations of their own medical experts will prevent that. If the NFL doesn’t do their part to keep players healthy there is no football in 2020. It’s that simple. Get it done @NFL— Drew Brees (@drewbrees) July 19, 2020

L-A Radio: Roger Stone Denies Slur During KFI Interview
![]() |
| Roger Stone and Mo'Kelly |
At the time, Stone was getting a grilling over the merits of his convictions for lying to Congress by Morris O’Kelly, known as Mo’Kelly, the host of a broadcast on Southern California’s KFI 640 AM.
The NY Post reports Mo’Kelly argued that Stone’s close friendship with Trump was the reason he was granted clemency, and not because he was treated unfairly by the justice system as Stone has insisted.
“There are thousands of people treated unfairly daily. Hell, your number just happened to come up in the lottery,” Mo’Kelly said. “I’m guessing it was more than just luck, Roger, right?
An exasperated Stone paused during the debate and appeared to vent to someone else in the room with him.
“I don’t really feel like arguing with this Negro,” Stone could be heard saying.“I’m sorry, what was that?” Mo’Kelly responds.
“Roger? I’m sorry, what did you say?”
Stone then went silent for more than 40 seconds before claiming the phone line was going in and out.
Mo’Kelly asked Stone to repeat what he said, the word “Negro,” but Stone denied ever saying the word — which was nonetheless clearly audible on a taped version, at around the 12-minute mark of the 30-minute interview.
Hey everyone. I heard what I heard. The audio is the audio. I will address in Hour 2. We're blowing out the second half of the show.#RogerStone— Mr. Mo'Kelly 🎙️ (@MrMokelly) July 19, 2020
I am nobody's NEGRO.
Mo’Kelly later blogged about the interview, calling Stone out for using the “low-calorie version of the N-Word.”
“[Stone] didn’t see me as a journalist, not as a professional, not a radio host … but a “Negro” first and foremost,” he wrote.
“Thirty years as an entertainment professional, twenty of them in radio. ‘Negro’ was the first pejorative uttered.”
In a statement, Stone defended himself by saying that anyone familiar with him “knows I despise racism!”
“Mr. O’Kelly needs a good peroxide cleaning of the wax in his ears because at no time did I call him a negro,” Stone said, using lowercase for the word. “That said, Mr. O’Kelly needs to spend a little more time studying black history and institutions. The word negro is far from a slur.”
He cited the United Negro College Fund and the historical use of the word.
At one time, “Negro” was common in the American vernacular to describe African Americans. By the late 1960s, however, the word was scorned by activists in favor of such descriptors as “Black.” These days, some view the antiquated word as derogatory in most uses, The Associated Press reports.
Disney Slashes Ad Spending on Facebook
Walt Disney Co. has dramatically slashed its advertising spending on Facebook Inc., according to The Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the situation, the latest setback for the tech giant as it faces a boycott from companies upset with its handling of hate speech and divisive content.
Disney was Facebook’s top U.S. advertiser for the first six months of 2020, research firm Pathmatics Inc. estimates. It joins hundreds of other companies that have paused spending, including Unilever PLC, Starbucks Corp., Ford Motor Co., Verizon Communication Inc. and many small marketers.
Civil-rights groups including the Anti-Defamation League and NAACP called on advertisers to pull ad spending for July, arguing Facebook hasn’t made enough progress enforcing its policies on hate speech and misinformation.
Some brands paused spending for longer stretches; the time frame for Disney’s pullback wasn’t clear. Unlike many other companies, Disney didn’t make a public announcement that it was cutting back on Facebook, but instead shifted advertising plans quietly. The entertainment giant, which is concerned about Facebook’s enforcement of its policies surrounding objectionable content, has paused advertising of its streaming-video service Disney+, the people familiar with the situation said. Disney has promoted the service heavily this year and it makes up a substantial portion of the company’s spending on marketing.
In the first half of this year, Disney spent an estimated $210 million on Facebook ads for Disney+ in the U.S., according to Pathmatics. Disney was the biggest ad spender during that period. Last year, it was the No. 2 Facebook advertiser in the U.S., behind Home Depot Inc.
Disney also paused spending on Facebook-owned Instagram for its sister streaming service Hulu, a person familiar with matter said. Hulu spent $16 million on Instagram from April 15 to June 30, Pathmatics said.
Other divisions of Disney are also re-examining their advertising on Facebook. Disney representatives had no immediate comment.

Johnny Green Jr. will start his new job Aug. 10. He joined WBZ in 2015 as assistant news director and later became news director and vice president at the station, CBS said in a statement, calling Green a “visionary newsroom leader.”
“I am honored by the opportunity to join CBS News,” Green said in the statement. “I look forward to building on the tradition established at Newspath and providing editorially rich content and support during this transformative time.”
According to its Facebook page, CBS Newspath provides national news, sports, features and live events to local CBS affiliates. WBZ-TV is the Boston affiliate.

The South Carolina native has previously worked as a producer at four television stations in North Carolina and as an executive producer for local stations in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Myrtle Beach, S.C., the network said.

Alex Trebek May Halt Cancer Treatment
Alex Trebek sat down with The New York Times to discuss his current state of mind, the future of Jeopardy!, and how he plans to move forward with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
The 79-year-old said that he plans to stop treatment if his current round of chemo isn’t successful. “Yesterday morning my wife [Jean] came to me and said, ‘How are you feeling?’ And I said, ‘I feel like I want to die.’ It was that bad,” he said. “There comes a time where you have to make a decision as to whether you want to continue with such a low quality of life, or whether you want to just ease yourself into the next level. It doesn’t bother me in the least.”
But he also said that working on Jeopardy! has renewed his determination to live. He’s been working on the show since 1984. “Oddly enough, when we started taping I suddenly started to regain my strength,” he said, after noting that he could hardly get out of bed in the morning. “It’s the strangest thing. It is some kind of an elixir.”
New tapings aren’t happening now amid the COVID shutdown, but Trebek has been recording new show openings for upcoming special episodes that will start airing today (Monday). Trebek also told the Times that if his strength falters, he’ll step back: “It’s a quality program, and I think I do a good job hosting it, and when I start slipping, I’ll stop hosting,” he said.
Trebek said that he sees a place for Jeopardy! in an increasingly confusing world: “There’s a certain comfort that comes from knowing a fact. The sun is up in the sky. There’s nothing you can say that’s going to change that. You can’t say, ‘The sun’s not up there, there’s no sky.’ There is reality, and there’s nothing wrong with accepting reality. It’s when you try to distort reality, to maneuver it into accommodating your particular point of view, your particular bigotry, your particular whatever — that’s when you run into problems.”
His autobiography, The Answer Is ..., is due out July 21st.

| Loomis in 1865 |
In the mid-1800s it had been well established that the Earth was surrounded by a significant electrical field, and Loomis felt passionately that this was an overlooked resource of vast potential, both for generating electrical power, and as a conduit that would support worldwide wireless communication.
Loomis was also a dentist, the inventor of artificial teeth (patent #10,847 May 2, 1854), and the earliest inventor of wireless communication (patent #129,971).
He was born July 26, 1826 in Oppenheim, New York and died, October 13, 1886 in Terra Alta, West Virginia.
➦In 1890...Character actor Verna Felton born in Salinas, CA (Died from a stroke – December 14, 1966). She was best known for providing many voices in numerous Disney animated films, as well as voicing Fred Flintstone's mother-in-law Pearl Slaghoople in Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones (1962–1963).
She also had roles in live-action films; however, she was most active in radio programs. She was known for her husky voice and no-nonsense attitude. Two of her most famous roles were as Dennis Day's mother Mrs. Day on The Jack Benny Program (1939–1962) and as Hilda Crocker on the CBS sitcom December Bride (1952–1959).
Felton worked extensively in the 1930s and '50s in Hollywood radio, notably playing The Mom in The Cinnamon Bear, Junior the Mean Widdle Kid's grandmother on Red Skelton's radio series, Hattie Hirsch on Point Sublime, and Dennis Day's protective, domineering, and authoritative mother, Mrs Day, who was always looking out for him while trying to boss around Jack Benny on The Jack Benny Program. In addition, she performed on radio as a regular on The Abbott and Costello Show and The Great Gildersleeve.
➦In 1935…The crime drama G-Men debuted on NBC Radio. It was renamed Gang Busters in January 1936 and moved to CBS Radio. The series ran for 21 years.
➦In 1937…Guglielmo Marconi died in Rome on 20 July 1937 at age 63, following a series of heart attacks, and Italy held a state funeral for him. As a tribute, all radio stations throughout the world observed two minutes of silence on the next day.
When Marconi made his famous first transatlantic radio transmission in 1901, rival inventor Nikola Tesla claimed that it was done with 17 Tesla patents. Thus began years of patent battles over radio with Tesla's patents being upheld in 1903, followed by a reverse decision in favor of Marconi in 1904.
In June 1943, the United States Supreme Court restored patent rights to Tesla, saying their decision had no bearing on Marconi's claim as the first to achieve radio transmission, just that because Marconi's claim to certain patents was questionable, he could not claim infringement on those same patents.
