Report: Tablets, Smartphone Outselling Other Devices
Multipurpose devices like tablets and smartphones are
gaining popularity, as sales keep shrinking of e-readers, MP3 players and
digital cameras, according to a story at wsj.com.
Hubbard Radio Websites Back After Cyber Attack
"Getting the websites back up and running safely for
all users has been our top priority," said Joel Oxley, Senior Vice
President and General Manager of WTOP and Federal News Radio. "We take our
users' privacy very seriously, and we have taken steps to prevent similar
occurrences. We apologize to our user community for any inconvenience that this
incident has caused."
WTOP.com and FederalNewsRadio.com were victims of
cyberattacks last week. When the attacks were discovered, an investigation was
launched immediately, the malicious code was removed, additional security
measures were installed, and federal law enforcement officials were notified of
the incident.
Access to the websites from Internet Explorer web browsers
was blocked to allow for a careful examination of how site security was
compromised and after the initial review, which suggested the hackers may have
targeted Internet Explorer users.
"We have found and eliminated the vulnerabilities that
were exploited," said John Spaulding, the Washington , D.C.
Computers infected with the malware may display a pop-up
message indicating that the computer is infected with a virus. This pop-up
message may be fake if it prompts the user to click on a link, which takes them
to a website that is not recognized by the user. This fake website offers
security software for sale and prompts users to provide personal information,
including credit card numbers. Users should not provide information, if
prompted to do so.
Computers with up-to-date anti-virus programs and security
software should identify the malware and provide instructions on how to delete
or quarantine it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, through his Ryan
Seacrest Productions, the American Idol host has sold 13 two-hour episodes of
the variety competition format Duelo Musical: Super Estrella (SuperStar
Showdown) to Spanish-language network Telemundo.
The shiny-floor format revolves around two music artists
competing head to head, with the loser having to fulfill a gentlemen’s bet.
Each episode will feature challenges, mystery acts and big musical performances
— plus two new stars. As on Seacrest’s other music competition series, viewers
will decide who wins.

“Latin America has always
produced incredible musicians who have influenced global pop culture. Because
of this, RSP has been focused on developing programming to reach the Hispanic
audience for some time,” Seacrest tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Huckabee On Radio Show: ‘Hope to Continue On’
Despite earlier suggestions that he was considering ending
his talk radio show, Mike Huckabee insists to Newsmax that he has every
intention of remaining on the air.
"Within the next month, I’ll decide if I want to
continue it or not," he told the publication Arkansas Business last week.
But on Friday, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential
candidate tells Newsmax: "I'm hoping that we're going to continue right
on. That's my plan and my hope and so there's nothing to report other than I'll
be on the air today and next week and, as far as I know, for the long term to
come.
"The Mike Huckabee Show" airs on more than 200
stations in 44 states. It was launched on Cumulus Media Networks in April 2012.

Media ‘Wrong Over And Over Again’
CBS News anchor Scott Pelley on Friday at the Quinnipiac University
in Connecticut
said its’ been a rough few months for journalism.
“Our house is on fire,” Pelley told the audience. “These
have been a bad few months for journalism. We’re getting the big stories wrong
over and over again,” reports The Global Dispatch.
“Let me take the first arrow,” he continued. “During our
coverage of Newtown ,
I sat on my set and I reported that Nancy Lanza was a teacher at the school.
And that her son had attacked her classroom. It’s a hell of a story, but it was
dead wrong. Now I was the managing editor, I made the decision to go ahead with
that and I did, and that’s what I said, and I was absolutely wrong. So let me
just take the first arrow here.”
“Our nation was attacked by terrorists,” Pelley said
discussing the Boston Marathon bombing. “I cannot think of a time when the
public that we serve needs accurate, timely information more than in those
moments when our country is under attack.”

The 83-year-old Walters said, "I am very happy with my
decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead. I do not want
to appear on another program or climb another mountain. I want instead to sit
on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women -- and, OK, some men, too --
who will be taking my place."
Walters spent 37 years at ABC News, joining the network in
1976 when she become the first female co-anchor on an evening news program.
Before than, she spent 15 years at NBC News, where she was a co-host of the
Today show.

NBC Names Seth Meyers To Host Late Night

According to a story at USAToday, Saturday Night Live's head
writer and Weekend Update anchor will transition to the talk show when Fallon
takes over Tonight from Jay Leno in late February, after NBC's Winter Olympics
from Sochi, Russia. Late Night will remain based in New York , with Lorne Michaels as executive
producer and Mike Shoemaker continuing as day-to-day producer.
"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful
comedy writers and performers of his generation," says NBC Entertainment
chairman Robert Greenbatt in a statement, adding Meyers' 12 seasons on SNL
"helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late
Night franchise."
NBC's latest round of late-night musical chairs began in
early April, when the network announced it would again usher Leno — still the
most-watched wee-hours host — out the door at Tonight, and move Fallon in early
next year.

According to a story by Rob Raissman at NYDailyNews.com, through
28 games aired on the Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network (five games
aired on other outlets), the Bombers’ TV household rating was down 39% compared
to the same 28 game span in 2012.
In the key demographic (men 25-54) over the same stretch of
games, the Yankees’ rating on YES was down 56% compared to last season. Among
people 25-54, the rating was down 55%.
Raissman believes the ratings are down because of the lack
of star power. Throughout the history of YES, the Yankees have been a ratings
juggernaut. The team has won consistently with a star-studded cast. Now they
are winning without one.
Birmingham Radio: Magic City Morning Show OUT At WBHJ
The show was previously broadcast on fellow station 102.1.
It will air simultaneously on both stations for one week before making the
permanent switch, aaccording to al.com. Birmingham
native Smiley is no stranger to local radio, co-hosting on 95.7’s first morning
show in 1997.
“We are super excited to welcome Rickey back home to 95.7
Jamz,” said David DuBose, executive vice president of Summit Media. “Rickey
started his radio career here in Birmingham with us and we know listeners will
love hearing Bernice, Lil Darryl, Granny and his entire cast of characters as
well as Ebony, who is also an alum of 95.7 Jamz.”

The "Magic City Morning Show” aired for the last time
Friday morning. It was the last local morning show in the city’s urban radio
market. It began airing in September after comedian Roy Wood Jr.’s departure
from the station.

It’s been a little over two weeks since New York City radio
personality Mister Cee was arrested in Brooklyn after patronizing sex from a
male police officer posing as a prostitute (see earlier posting, Click Here), and it now seems the noted deejay
is now intent on promoting safe sex, according to a story at hiphopdx.com.
Mister Cee recently appeared in a public service
announcement for AIDS Healthcare Foundation and in the PSA he confessed to
having an addiction.
“I can honestly say I have an addiction,” the deejay
revealed. “And that’s something that I’m gonna have to deal with as I move
forward in my life. But to all of you out there, I know there’s a lot of y’all
that got y’all situations that y’all go through sexually…Everybody is not
living a righteous lifestyle out there, even myself. So, what I wanted to do
today was to talk about the importance of safe sex. Talk about the importance
of using a condom. Just talking about the importance of being healthy in your
life as far as taking a HIV test.”
Mister Cee concluded his PSA by encouraging viewers to take
a HIV test and to not feel ashamed when it concerns being tested.

Selena Gomez sat down for a fun interview with Matty In the
Morning on WXKS Kiss 108 on Friday morning, May 10, and seemingly squashed the
idea that she had reunited with Justin Bieber by admitted that she was
available.

Lane appeared on KONY’s morning radio show Thursday morning
but by the afternoon he was no longer employed there. When The Spectrum reached
for comment Friday afternoon, Lane only offered a few short statements.
“I’m not leaving town and you’ll hear me on another radio
station soon,” he said. “It was a pleasure and honor working with not only a
great guy but a great co-host like Carl Lamar. It was an absolute pleasure. I
will miss him and many others at the radio station.”
Canyon Media did not release a statement about Lane’s
departure. Matt Burgoyne, general manager of Canyon Media, relayed only a
message of “no comment” via a receptionist.

Turkle is the nickname of makeup artist Karen Faye, who
testified Thursday and Friday in Jackson 's
wrongful death trial. Her testimony has been the most dramatic so far.

on the witness stand.

said in reply to concerns about Jackson 's
weight loss, Faye testified.
"It was such a cold response, it broke my heart,"
Faye said through tears.
Report: End Of The World For Family Radio?
A lengthy piece in Sunday’s Mercury News points out its stations
had no commercials, providing 24-hour, seven-days-a-week Christian programming
in 30 languages -- including hymns, Bible teachings and gospel talk shows --
with Camping's "Open Forum" program airing every weeknight for 90
minutes. The nonprofit paid its bills through donors' philanthropy, amassing
$216.4 million in donations from 1997 through 2011, according to tax returns
(2012 totals are not yet available). On its website and during broadcasts,
listeners were told how to donate.
Camping became more engrossed with predictions of Judgment
Day as the years passed, espousing multiple possibilities before ultimately
focusing on May 21, 2011, as the highly publicized date. Contributions spiked,
with stories surfacing across the country of followers donating their life
savings, as Family Radio spent prodigiously to publicize the end of the world.
