As Iran and Israel engage in a volatile exchange of missile strikes, marking one of the most intense military escalations in recent Middle East history, CNN commentator and conservative political strategist Scott Jennings finds himself caught in the conflict zone. Jennings, who traveled to Israel to visit sites linked to the October 7 Hamas attacks, has been navigating a perilous landscape of air raid sirens, emergency lockdowns, and closed airports.
Over the past few days, Jennings has moved between hotels in northern Israel and Jerusalem, posting a tense update on social media Sunday afternoon: “Sirens in Jerusalem now… hearing booms as we head to shelter.” In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he described the chaos unfolding around him.
While preparing for a CNN segment on his hotel balcony in Tiberius, near the Sea of Galilee, Jennings witnessed a military jet soaring overhead as air raid sirens blared. Hotel staff quickly guided guests to designated safe zones. Days earlier, during a dinner in Jerusalem, he sought refuge in a cramped bomb shelter, describing it as a small room packed with people.
About 240am in Jerusalem tonight … just caught this missile activity. Booming in distance. Right above me. pic.twitter.com/h8Km3XGWWi

The crisis escalated rapidly over the weekend following an Israeli strike that reportedly killed senior Iranian military officials and targeted nuclear scientists, prompting Iran to retaliate with ballistic missile attacks. This triggered widespread alerts and lockdowns across Israel. Jennings told THR he’s been ordered to remain in his hotel, with no clarity on when he can leave.
“Airspace is closed, airports are closed,” he said. “The thing we know the least about is how are we going to get out of here.”
