Certain ideas about judging people by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin were perceived to be “white” during Tuesday’s SiriusXM Patriot broadcast.
The Washington Times reports the moment came while Mr. Webb and his guest discussed hiring practices.
“That’s a whole other long conversation about white privilege, the things that you have the privilege of doing, that people of color don’t have the privilege of,” Areva Martin said of the host’s emphasis on credentials over pigmentation.
“How do I have the privilege of white privilege?” Mr. Webb asked, Mediaite reported.
“David, by virtue of being a white male you have white privilege,” the guest replied.
“Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should’ve been better prepped. I’m black,” the Fox News contributor deadpanned. “You went immediately with an assumption. You’re talking to a black man who started out in rock radio in Boston, who crossed the paths into hip-hop rebuilding one of the greatest black stations in America.”
“I apologize,” Ms. Martin replied. “Because my people gave me wrong information.”
Webb slammed CNN legal analyst Martin for defaulting to a “false-narrative” attack when she accused him of benefiting from white privilege before learning he was black.
“There is no such thing as white privilege,” Webb said Wednesday morning on “Fox & Friends.”
Webb said Martin should be embarrassed for using an “easy, false narrative” when trying to make a point. Fox Nation’s “Reality Check” host accused Martin of assuming he was white simply because of his thoughts on issues such as due process.
