➤RUSSIA POUNDS UKRAINE'S SECOND CITY: Russia aims to make life unlivable in Ukraine’s second city. Ukrainian forces have halted Russia’s advance north of Kharkiv, but the city remains in Moscow’s crosshairs. Ukrainian and Western officials say Russia appears to be planning a grinding war of attrition to empty it of its population. Moscow tried to foment a revolt in the predominantly Russian-speaking city in 2014 and reached its outskirts in 2022. Now, with the war in its third year, Russia is targeting Kharkiv’s energy infrastructure and battering the city with missiles and guided bombs while trying to push its artillery back in range.
➤MEXICO ELECTS FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT: Claudia Sheinbaum was elected Mexico’s first female president in a landslide on Sunday, an official quick-count of votes showed, cementing the dominance of the left-leaning Morena movement that over the past six years has upended the country’s political establishment. Her victory stunned an opposition that’s expressed fear about the weakening of the country’s democratic institutions. At least five exit polls showed Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, winning the presidency, with pollster Parametria forecasting a landslide 56% of the vote for the ruling MORENA party candidate. Parametria forecast opposition candidate Xochitl Galvez taking 30% of the vote.NY Post 6/3/24 |

🏀WNBA CLARK HAS BECOME A TARGET ON THE COURT: Cailin Clark was expecting a more physical game when she transitioned to the WNBA. In some cases, though, Clark has been the subject of what could be flagrant fouls. An instance in Indiana's win over Chicago on Saturday is a prime example: Sky guard Chennedy Carter and Clark exchanged words following a Fever possession when Clark got a rebound over her.
CHENNEDY CARTER KNOCKED CAITLIN CLARK TO THE FLOOR 😱 In an intense matchup between the Sky and the Fever, Chennedy Carter fouled Caitlin Clark and got called for a Flagrant on 1 June 2024.

Damn. I don’t think she could’ve
pushed her any Carter.

After Carter made a midrange shot on the next possession, she went to guard Clark on the inbound and shoulder-checked the Fever rookie to the ground. "I wasn't expecting that," Clark said. "But it's just, 'Respond, calm down and let your play do the talking.' It is what it is.” The WNBA confirmed Sunday morning that Carter’s foul against Clark has been upgraded to a Flagrant 1 after league review.Despite Fever players' call for a review during the game, Carter was not assessed a technical or flagrant foul. She was charged with an away-from-the-ball common foul, which resulted in one free throw for the Fever and possession. Clark made that free throw, and the Fever ended up winning by one point, 71-70.
