Bryant Gumbel Hospitalized


Veteran broadcaster Bryant Gumbel, 77, was rushed to a Manhattan hospital by ambulance following a medical emergency at his apartment on October 20, 2025, at around 9 p.m. ET. 

First responders transported Gumbel on a gurney, and he remained under treatment as of October 21, 2025, according to sources close to the situation. A family member told TMZ that Gumbel is "okay," but no further details on his condition have been released.

Gumbel, a pioneering journalist and former co-host of NBC’s Today show from 1982 to 1997, is best known for his 29-season run on HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, which earned him four Emmy Awards and a 2012 Peabody Award. 

He retired from broadcasting in 2023 after a career that included coverage of the NFL, Major League Baseball, and the O.J. Simpson trial. 

His estimated net worth is $25 million.The incident prompted an outpouring of support on X, where users shared tributes to the "broadcasting legend." Gumbel’s hospitalization comes less than a year after the death of his brother, Greg Gumbel, a noted CBS sports announcer, in December 2024. 

No official statement from Gumbel’s representatives has been issued as of Wednesday.
