Detroit Radio: WJR Adds Eli Zaret Sports Commentary

Eli Zaret
Cumulus Media announces that News/Talk WJR 760 AM Detroit will debut a new daily sports feature today with commentary by famed Detroit sports broadcaster and journalist Eli Zaret. Zaret’s new feature, “After Further Review”, will air weekdays at 4:36pm on The Guy Gordon Show, which is broadcast from 3:00pm-5:00pm on 760 WJR-AM.

Zaret is widely known for his coverage of the Detroit Pistons as a sideline reporter and for his blog, “Blue Collar Blueprint”, based on his 2004 book about the Pistons’ rise to their third NBA championship. Zaret’s career began in 1974 at WABX-FM in Detroit, where he was regarded as the "first FM sportscaster" in Detroit.

Zaret became the lead sports anchor for NBC affiliate WDIV-TV in the 1980’s and served a similar role at WABC-TV in New York, where he shared weeknight sports reporting duties with Corey McPherrin. Zaret was Sports Director for Detroit’s WCSX-FM and for WRIF-FM and served in the same capacity for WJBK-TV, where he was also Lead Anchor.

Guy Gordon, Host of WJR’s The Guy Gordon Show, said: "Eli is one of the most iconic and distinctive voices, both literally and figuratively, and I can’t wait to share his take every afternoon."

Zaret said: "I'm excited about the opportunity to play a role at one of America's legendary radio stations that features a cast of Hall of Fame broadcasters. Before starting in television at WDIV in 1980, I loved writing radio sports commentaries. Now, over 40 years later, to be able to do them at WJR alongside my long-time friend and colleague, Guy Gordon, is a very cool thing. I feel like I'm going back to my roots in radio."
