Fargo Radio: KFGO, KVOX Pick-Up UND Sports

University of North Dakota athletics has found a new radio home in Fargo, a station formerly associated with North Dakota State.

Inforum is reporting, UND, along with multimedia rights holder Learfield, announced Tuesday, June 21, a five-year partnership with KFGO 790 AM and Midwest Radio-Fargo Moorhead beginning with the 2016-17 season.

It's a rivalry reversal for KFGO, which was home to the Bison for the last six years. But last March, NDSU surprised many in the industry by reaching an agreement with Radio FM Media for the school's radio rights.

"(NDSU) went a different direction," said Joel Heitkamp, operations manager for KFGO and KVOX 740 AM. "I didn't know where UND was at the time (with its previous radio contract), but having worked with UND in the past, you're working with pure professionals. The minute I found out (NDSU was leaving KFGO), I was really anxious to talk to UND. I knew the quality of the programs and the support of the fans and the local businesses.

A big selling point for KFGO was its family of stations, Heitkamp said.

Game coverage will include men's hockey, football and men's and women's basketball. Hockey and football will be on KFGO AM 790 while basketball and a weekly coaches show will air on AM 740 The Fan.

A daily program, UND Sports Today, will air on both stations.
