The station, which had called itself “the Big O,” now is “the Keg.” A press release said the new tag is geared to remind listeners around either side of age 40 of their days sipping beer and listening to Guns N’ Roses, Journey, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Van Halen and Def Leopard. The emphasis shifts from programming that included 1970s pop hits to more of a focus on 1980s music, said Andy Ruback, the station’s general manager.

“Omahans want more of this music than they have been getting,” Ruback said, citing results of a recent survey of potential listeners ages 25 to 54. KOOO’s recent ratings have consistently placed it toward the bottom of Omaha’s top 10 for that demographic, he said. He expects the new format to boost ratings among 25- to 54-year-olds.

The Keg???? Really? Bring back Dave!
ReplyDeleteI am still telling you to bring back 106.9 the City. Triple A Radio
ReplyDeleteYour morning DJ went from an A+ to a D. What a big mistake. You have just lost a longtime listener. I will be looking for another station, hopefully, Dave Wingert will be somewhere in Omaha.
ReplyDeleteI liked my mornings starting off with positive, life-enhancing commentary in between the rock hits. Although I like Crash (in a different time slot!) bring back Wingert!! Until that time (if it comes) I have of necessity switched to NPR - which I would normally listen to later in the day.....
ReplyDeleteImagine my dismay at returning from vacation and finding Crash on in the early morning!! I liked waking up to positive commentary in between the rock songs and was really happy I'd finally found a station with that kind of material. I like Crash, but in a different time slot! Until you bring back Wingert, I will be (unhappily) waking up to 105.9,.....
ReplyDeleteNooooooo wayyyy! Oh no you di Unt!!!... dave..dave...dave...dave...(no offense Mr crash)
ReplyDeletedave...dave.....we want dave! Don't know who you talked with, the dave listeners were at work dealing with the world after 0900 (thats a.m.)...so you asked the wrong group....booooo 101.9 ...dave...dave...
where is dave ? (sniff) i miss him ...no more 101.9 for me- when your ratings or
ReplyDeleteshare market or whatever was down..maybe management should have been "re-evaluated" everybody loves dave ...nice job...you made it worse....(try convincing me a "quick ride" on the Titanic might be fun...pass)
Has anybody heard who will be smart enough to pick up dave?
ReplyDeleteSorry Crash! You make me want to bang my head against a wall, it is like listening toWilliam Shatner. I love Dave Wingert, he has energy, he has a positive attitude. The music, and I do love it, will not make me stay if the DJ makes me crazy. Sorry guys. I will be finding a new station and hopefully can find Dave again on a morning show elsewhere. Big mistake changing morning DJ's big wigs. I don't know who you surveyed but everyone I know will be changing.
ReplyDeleteNew Station here I come. I love the music but not the DJ. I want to hit my head against a wall. He drones like Will Shatner. Sorry Crash. I love Dave. Positive, energetic, informative, lovely. Big mistake the management made there.
ReplyDeleteI too changed to a different station for my mornings. I cannot stand thevoice of "Crash" for waking up. I can hardly even understand him, and that tone! I really miss Dave Wingert. I hope he hasn't been wrongly screwed by another Omaha station. I also do not like the new format for mornings... The few times I listened, however, it was only men who were calling in. Interesting. Here's the deal. In a day and age when we are trying to teach people to have a keener sense of acountability, and cleaning up their acts, and deal with the reality of the world, your whole premise is to "remember those beer-drinkin' days" and "keep that old spirit alive". GROW UP!!!! those days should be behind the alleged age range you are seeking for your station.
ReplyDeleteI switched stations due to the loss of Dave Wingert. He was positive, upbeat and an all around good guy. This Crash guy is gruff, LOUD and completly NOT funny. Not a good move at all.
ReplyDeleteI loved Dave!!! He was the reason I listened to 101.9. I don't mind the new format but why didn't you keep Dave? Due to leaving Dave in the dust, I switched to 104.5 until you guys can come to your senses and get Dave Wingert back!!!
ReplyDeleteDave was the best! I'm tuning out. And I liked the name of the station as the BIG O better. The Keg? That just sounds stupid.
ReplyDeleteDave made my drive to work enjoyable in the morning. I looked forward to it every day.
ReplyDeleteStill missing Dave and not listening to 101.9.
ReplyDeleteI do not listen to this station anymore. Dave made my day.
ReplyDeleteI switched to Pandora Radio because of the switch. What's your research tell you about that? I've tried listening to Crash and it's not working. Lost a loyal listener what a shame! Demographic - white male, 53 yrs, professional, average listening time 50 hours a week, gone!
ReplyDeleteWow. Not one positive comment. And I couldn't agree more. I miss Dave! He was positive and affirming. Crash's voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard at that time of day. Please, please, please--BRING BACK DAVE!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Crash is a good guy but not a good morning dj. You could have changed the music and still kept Dave. Poor move I say.
ReplyDeleteI have been a loyal fan of Dave Wingert...and will NOT listen to 101.9 THE KEG!!! I loved hearing Dave in the morning on my way to work. Right now I am listening to 104.5, but would prefer to have Dave back at 101.9. PLEASE bring him back!!! BIG mistake taking him off the air!
ReplyDeleteSame here! I am listening now to 104.5 now that Dave is off of 101.9. I don't care what you call it, he was a great voice in the a.m. See ya later 101.9.
ReplyDeleteStill missing Dave Wingert in the mornings on my car radio, after all this time! Where did he go?Crash stresses me out...
ReplyDeleteI've switched to 99.9 since they fired Dave, but mornings aren't the same. I can't STAND Crash. I loved the old format...not sure why they changed it other than to copy Todd n Tyler (YUCK!!!!)
