Matt Pinfield |
Los Angeles radio personality Matt Pinfield, once a prominent Bay Area radio personality and MTV host, suffered a severe stroke earlier this month, as stated in legal documents by his family.
Now 63, Pinfield gained fame in the mid-1990s through hosting MTV's "120 Minutes," an alternative rock show. Throughout his career, he served in executive positions at Columbia Records, hosted various radio programs, and until recently, co-hosted "The Power Hour" on AXS TV.
His health issues were first hinted at by Los Angeles radio station KCSN 88.5 FM, which announced: "The SoCal Sound's legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be taking a temporary leave of absence. We are fully supportive of Matt and hope to have his energetic knowledge of rock n’ roll back on the air soon."
Pinfield also hosted a Sunday evening show on 95.5 KLOS/Los Angeles. Its owners, Meruelo Media, shared a statement wishing him well on his path to recovery. “Everyone at KLOS & Meruelo Media, along with Matt’s family (daughters Jessica and Maya, brother Glen, sister Colleen, mother Nancy), his girlfriend Kara, and the entire rock and roll universe support Matt in taking some time off to rest and heal,” they said. “Matt is a family member, and we look forward to having him back on the KLOS airwaves as soon as possible. We know his fans across the country and all the artists feel the same way.”
Pinfield also had a significant presence in Bay Area radio, where he hosted the morning show on KFOG 104.5 FM for years. His extensive radio career spans roles at SiriusXM and New York's WRXP.
After his stroke on January 6, his daughter, Jessica, filed for temporary conservatorship, expressing concerns about his health and financial management, according to TMZ.
