Christian Broadcasting Network has a message for an upstart channel hoping to break into the televangelism business.
Welcome. Now change your name.
According to PilotOnLine, an attorney for the Virginia Beach-based media company filed a lawsuit this week against the newly launched Eternity Everlasting Christian Broadcasting Network, claiming among other things trademark infringement.
CBN, founded in 1960 by televangelist Pat Robertson, wants a federal judge to order EECBN to immediately change its name and pay unspecified damages.
More specifically, it wants EECBN to stop using "Christian Broadcasting Network," "CBN" or any other similar language because the public might think the new channel is somehow connected to the original.
"CBN is not attempting to stop defendant from operating a Christian network," the lawsuit said. It stressed that Robertson's company was "only protecting CBN's valuable trademarks as it is required to do."
