VA Radio: Saga To Acquire WBOP and WSIG

Just about a month ago, Tidewater Communications a.k.a. Saga Communications announced plans to acquire five stations in Viriginia from VerStandig Broadcasting for $9.6M.

Now, comes word Saga plans to acquire two additional stations in the Harrionsburg market

WBOP 95.5 FM (6 Kw) Red=Loval Coverage Area
The stations are currently owned by Gamma Broadcasting LLC and are AC WBOP 95.5 FM, licensed to Buffalo Gap and Country WSIG 96.9 FM, licensed to Mount Jackson.

WSIG 96.9 FM (4.3 Kw) Red=Local Coverage Area
The price was not disclosed. The deal will close pending FCC approval.

The stations will give Saga seven signals in the more, one over the FM limit of four. Saga owns radio stations in 23 markets ranging from Milwaukee and Columbus to Portland, ME and Bellingham, WA. Gamma is a Massachusetts-based company headed by Bruce Danziger, Ken Barlow and Keith Thomas. Including pending transactions, Gamma and its affiliates own and operate 24 U.S. stations.
