Springfield MO Radio: Sportscaster Ned Reynolds Sets Retirement

Ned Reynolds
After a 48 year, Hall-of-Fame career, Ned Reynolds announced his impending retirement as KYTV-3 Sports Director.

Reynold's last sportscast will be on Monday, December 1st, but he will not be leaving the air entirely.

He will continue to do play-by-play for Springfield Cardinals baseball games broadcast on KY3, and also produce and report on special KY3 sports projects.

Ned Reynolds said, “This is not a complete retirement announcement, but pretty darn close to it. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to make some close friendships and wonderful associations. These memories will be locked deep in my soul forever.  I thank everyone very much for accepting me into their family.”

KY3 President and General Manager Brian McDonough said, “Ned has become synonymous with sports in the Ozarks.  I can’t imagine there is a local sportscaster in the country who is more trusted and beloved than Ned Reynolds.  We thank him for his tremendous contributions to KY3 and our community.  Even though Ned is retiring as Sports Director, he’ll always be part of the KY3 family.”

Reynolds, who turns 73 in November, became the Ozarks' most recognized and beloved sports figure, parlaying his commanding TV voice and friendly demeanor into quite a career, according to the Springfield MO News-Leader.

He's covered just about everything that's happened in the Ozarks, from the Missouri State basketball Bears NCAA Tournament glory years under coach Charlie Spoonhour to the Lady Bears' Final Four runs as well as the St. Louis Cardinals exhibition games at Hammons Field in 2005, 2008 and 2012.

What won't change is Reynolds' morning sports-talk radio show "Sports Reporters" on Sport KWTO 98.7 FM, which airs daily 8a-10a. In a recent News-Leader sports feature story, Reynolds emphasized that radio broadcasting was in his roots.
