NYC Radio: WBLS Positioned To Challenge WLTW For #1

WLTW LITE 106.7 FM continued to rule city radio in the November Nielsen ratings, but look out for WBLS 107.5 FM, according to media writer David Hinckley at The NY Daily News.

WBLS, which gets a strong start from morning man Steve Harvey, averaged 6.7% of the overall audience for the month, a a close second behind Lite’s 7.0%.

That’s the highest audience share for WBLS since it merged with the late WRKS 98.7 FM.

It suggests “urban” stations, along with Hispanic stations WSKQ 97.9 FM and WXNY 96.3 FM, may be recovering from the huge hit they took when radio ratings switched to the portable people meter (PPM) system.

The real question is whether WBLS’ high overall ratings and top-five ratings in the advertiser-coveted 25-to-54-year-old demographic translate to ad revenue.
