LA Radio: Veteran Programmer Keith Cunningham Exits KLOS

Keith Cunningham, the longtime Program Director and VP/Programming for Classic Rock 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles, has left Meruelo Media after 10 years to launch Black Box Group, a new media consultancy focused on strategy, branding, and creative solutions for radio stations, talent, and audio brands.

Announced Monday, Black Box Group is described as a “high-impact, low-overhead” firm that will connect clients with specialists in analytics, production, and execution to help rebuild and grow audio properties in a fragmented media landscape.

Cunningham joined KLOS in 2015 under previous owner Cumulus Media and remained through Meruelo’s 2019 acquisition, guiding the heritage rocker through multiple ownership changes and key talent moves, including hiring Kevin Ryder for mornings in 2021.

No successor has been named at KLOS, and Meruelo Media has not commented on the departure.

With more than two decades in rock and alternative programming, including earlier roles at iHeartMedia Seattle and Jacobs Media, Cunningham is a frequent industry columnist and strategist. He is already accepting inquiries at keithblackboxgroup@gmail.com and via the new Black Box Group LinkedIn page.
