The iconic “John Boy and Billy Show,” a staple of country and rock radio for nearly half a century, will air its final episode on December 31, 2025, according to multiple reports. \
The announcement follows the show’s cancellation by its flagship station, Classic Rock WIMZ 103.5 in Knoxville, almost a year ago.
WIMZ broke the news via a job posting, stating it’s seeking “dynamic, creative, and engaging talents” for a new live and local morning show to replace the syndicated program. The station emphasized its goal to “create something truly unique and embedded in the community” after the “legendary John Boy and Billy Network” signs off.
Hosted by John Isley and Billy James, the show debuted in 1981 on 107.9 WBCY in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Known for its sharp comedy bits, it gained a national following, peaking at 100 stations in the early 2000s. The duo also released 23 comedy albums from the 1980s through the 2000s. However, its reach has since declined, with the show currently airing on 37 stations across the South and Midwest.
