Online Station Spins The Hits For Baby Boomers

Gary Cron doesn't mind being called an old fogy. Even though, at 65, he really isn't one. His daughter called him that years ago, and the moniker stuck.

According to azcentral.com, it only made sense that, while spinning music from the 1950s and '60s on the Internet, he embraced the nickname and introduce himself as Dafogey. He even named his online radio show Dafogey's Diner.

Cron started the online Baby Boomer Radio in California in 2009, broadcasting vintage favorites to an online audience that he says has grown by about 20 percent each year. He estimates that the streaming programs on BabyBoomerRadio.com amount to 12,000 listening hours each month.

The station has a few financial supporters, but it's very much a labor of love.

Baby Boomer Radio features old favorites, some of which can't be found in digital format. Although some of the older music may be on CD, other songs that are available only on vinyl must be transferred to a digital format to be played on the air. That takes time and money, but for Cron, who owned a traffic-consulting company before retiring, the music is worth the effort.
