According to cleveland.com, a full house at the Q jumped to its feet and sang along with classic hits, and showed its appreciation for John Lanigan, who is retiring after more than 40 years on morning radio.

"What am I gonna do without a microphone?" he quipped to the crowd. "It's been a lot of fun. We've been through the radio wars. We had a great time. All I can do is tell you how grateful I am. Thank you."

"Before this night is over, there will probably be a few tears shed," said longtime co-host Jimmy Malone, who will continue on the show with Chip Kullik and Tracey Carroll. "If you tell anybody outside this auditorium, I will never forgive you. I will miss working with my friend John Lanigan quite a bit."

Lanigan introduced them and Mark Nolan, who will take the morning reins on WMJI FM/105.7 after a final show Monday.

Kullik read a proclamation from Mayor Frank Jackson, summarizing it as "happy retirement, get some sleep."

The Moondog show was started as a revival by WMJI in 1992 to mark the 40th anniversary of Alan Freed's original Moondog Coronation Ball, widely regarded as the first rock and roll concert, at the Cleveland Arena. Its focus has stayed on original artists.
