TV Ratings: FOX News Channel, ABC World News See Growth


During the week of January 6 - 12, FOX News Channel (FNC) delivered its highest-rated week since the week following the 2024 Presidential Election across total day, commanding over 60% of the cable news share across primetime (68%) and total day (64%). 

FNC was the only cable news network to see both week-over-week and year-over-year growth in all categories. In primetime (8-11 PM/ET), FNC earned 2.5 million viewers and 303,000 in the 25-54 demo, leading all of cable news across the board. 

In total day (6AM-6AM/ET), FNC posted 1.8 million viewers and 227,000 in the 25-54 demo. Notably, FNC secured 99 of the top 100 cable news telecasts for the week.

For the week, The Five averaged 4.3 million viewers and 437,000 in the 25-54 demo, leading cable news across the board. At 6 PM/ET, Special Report with Bret Baier drew 3 million viewers and 343,000 in the 25-54 demo. The Ingraham Angle saw 2.8 million viewers and 343,000 in the 25-54 demo at 7 PM/ET. At 8 PM/ET, Jesse Watters Primetime delivered 3.4 million viewers and 394,000 in the 25-54 demo. 

At 9 PM/ET, Hannity posted 3.4 million viewers and 341,000 with A25-54. At 11 PM/ET, FOX News @ Night secured 1.7 million viewers and 279,000 in the 25-54 demo.

At 10 PM/ET, FNC’s late-night offering Gutfeld! secured 2.9 million viewers and 355,000 with A25-54 in the host’s return to the show following paternity leave. Gutfeld! once again topped the broadcast competition including CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (1,887,000 P2+; 303,000 A25-54), ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1,733,000 P2+; 335,000 A25-54), and NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1,199,000 P2+; 310,000 A25-54).

FNC also saw a number of its daytime programs outrank the broadcast competition. Most notably, Outnumbered (weekdays, 1-3 PM/ET; 2,545,000 P2+), Harris Faulkner’s The Faulkner Focus (weekdays, 11 AM/ET; 2,344,000 P2+), America Reports with Sandra Smith and John Roberts (weekdays, 3 PM/ET; 2,329,000 P2+), America’s Newsroom with Dana Perino and Bill Hemmer (weekdays, 9-11 AM/ET; 2,163,000 P2+) and The Story with Martha MacCallum (weekdays, 3 PM/ET; 2,136,000 P2+) all outpaced CBS Mornings (2,047,000 P2+), NBC’s Today with Hoda and Jenna (1,956,000 P2+), ABC’s GMA3 (1,676,000 P2+) and NBC News Daily (1,596,000 P2+).

On Saturday, FOX News Live (Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM/ET) was the most-watched show of the day with 1.9 million viewers and 216,000 in the 25-54 demo. Life, Liberty & Levin (weekends, 8 PM/ET) led in primetime commanding 1.7 million viewers. FOX News Saturday Night with Jimmy Failla (Saturday, 10 PM/ET) commanded 1.4 million viewers and 192,000 in the 25-54 demo as the show marked its one-year anniversary.

On Sunday, Maria Bartiromo’s Sunday Morning Futures (Sunday 10 AM/ET) was the top show of the weekend with 2.2 million viewers and 215,000 in the 25-54 demo. At 11 AM/ET, MediaBuzz garnered 223,000 in the 25-54 demo, the most in cable news in the younger demo. Life, Liberty & Levin secured 1.4 million viewers making it most-watched in primetime.

With anchor and managing editor David Muir reporting from Los Angeles Wednesday through Friday to cover the wildfires, “World News Tonight with David Muir” delivered the largest viewership in 2 years across the board and outdelivered NBC by 2.3 million viewers on Thursday — the biggest margin in 3.5 years. “World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers (8.866 million) on all of broadcast and cable (excluding sports) during the week of Jan. 6, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
  • “World News Tonight” stood as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (8.866 million), Adults 25-54 (1.344 million) and Adults 18-49 (967,000), beating “NBC Nightly News” (7.379 million, 1.155 million and 794,000, respectively) by 1.487 million Total Viewers, by 189,000 Adults 25-54 and by 173,000 Adults 18-49.
  • “World News Tonight” increased its lead over “NBC Nightly News” compared to the previous week in Total Viewers (+49% – 1.487 million vs. 998,000), Adults 25-54 (+330% – 189,000 vs. 44,000) and Adults 18-49 (+158% – 173,000 vs. 67,000).
  • “World News Tonight” widened its margins over “NBC Nightly News” year to year in Total Viewers (+4% – 1.487 million vs. 1.431 million), Adults 25-54 (+361% – 189,000 vs. 41,000) and Adults 18-49 (+204% – 173,000 vs. 57,000).
  • “World News Tonight” posted double-digit gains week to week in Total Viewers (+27%/+1.897 million – 8.866 million vs. 6.969 million), Adults 25-54 (+52%/+458,000 – 1.344 million vs. 886,000) and Adults 18-49 (+53%/+335,000 – 967,000 vs. 632,000), hitting 2-year highs across the board — since weeks of 1/23/23, 1/30/23 and 1/30/23, respectively.
  • “World News Tonight” improved on the same week last year in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+2%/+158,000 – 8.866 million vs. 8.708 million), Adults 25-54 (+18%/+206,000 – 1.344 million vs. 1.138 million) and Adults 18-49 (+21%/+168,000 – 967,000 vs. 799,000).


  • On Thursday (1/9/25), “World News Tonight” turned in its most-watched telecast (9.650 million) in nearly 2 years — since 1/30/23. In addition, on Wednesday (1/8/25), “World News Tonight” saw its strongest telecast in Adults 25-54 (1.493 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.093 million) in 22 months — since 3/13/23.
  • On Thursday, “World News Tonight” posted its largest single-day lead over “NBC Nightly News” in Total Viewers (+2.268 million – 9.650 million vs. 7.362 million) in more than 3 ½ years — since 6/11/21, based on regular telecasts.
  • For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.866 million, 1.344 million and 967,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.247 million, 743,000 and 516,000, respectively) by 3.619 million Total Viewers, by 601,000 Adults 25-54 and by 451,000 Adults 18-49. “World News Tonight” delivered its largest Total Viewer advantage in nearly 3 years and biggest margin in both key Adult demos in 2 years — since weeks of 3/7/22 and 1/9/23, respectively.
