Philly Radio: PD, Midday Host Eric Johnson Exits WMGK

Beasley Media has decided to cut ties with Eric Johnson, the Program Director and midday host at Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK Philadelphia, as his position has been eliminated. 

Johnson also served as PD of AC WJBR.com/WBEN-HD2Philadelphia and midday host on Classic Hits 105.7 WROR Boston.

Johnson joined Beasley Media in 2017 as Director of Sports Content for the Philadelphia cluster, overseeing “97.5 The Fanatic” WPEN-FM. After leaving that role in November 2019, he returned in June 2020 to program AC 99.5 WJBR Wilmington DE until it was sold and flipped in 2023. He began hosting middays on WMGK in September 2023 and added Program Director duties at the start of last year.

Before joining Beasley, Johnson spent eighteen years programming Townsquare Media Talk/Classic Hits “New Jersey 101.5” WKXW from 1999 to 2017. He also held roles as APD of Sports 610 WIP from 1994-99, PD of Hot AC turned Alternative “Y100” 100.3 WPLY from 1991-1994, and programmed CHR “Laser 104.1” WAEB-FM Allentown PA.

On Facebook, Johnson expressed pride in the consistent top ratings performance of WMGK and his own midday show. He mentioned that he will miss the listeners and his coworkers and is open to new opportunities in Philadelphia radio. Johnson can be reached at Eric.johnson4362@gmail.com.
