U-K Radio: Radio 1 Says Madonna Not Relevant to Listeners

  • Radio 1 has banned Madonna for being 'irrelevant and old' for its listeners
  • The 56-year-old singer has been dropped from the station's playlist
  • The singer's latest single has been available since December 20 last year
  • It has only been played on the station ONCE since its release
For more than 30 years, the Material Girl singer has reinvented herself as music and trends have evolved, and just last week she gave photographers a sneak peek of her derriere by mooning at the Grammys.

But if during the day you turn on Radio 1 - which has an audience of mainly 15-29-year-olds - you will not hear the 56-year-old's current single "Living For Love" as it did not make the cut.

The song, which was released in December early due to internet leaks, has only been played once on Radio 1 - on an evening show in which presenters can choose tracks that are not on the playlist.

The station said it never bans artists and added that her age would have played no part in the decision-making process.

A Radio 1 spokesman told Independent,ie: "The tracks are chosen on musical merit and their relevance to our young audience on a case-by-case basis, and whilst around 40% of the country's 15 to 29-year-olds tune into Radio 1 each week, an artist's age is never a factor."

Sir Paul McCartney, who is 72, currently has two tracks on the Radio 1 playlist.
