R.I.P.: Scranton/WB Sportscaster Mike Remish

Mike Remish
A longtime sportscaster and sports director for WICK 1400 AM /The Game Mike  Remish passed away on Saturday after a brief illness, according to the Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader.

Although working part time at the radio station until recently, Remish spent a lot of time at the station in Scranton. He was recently doing morning sports and news updates during the station’s Fox Sport’s Daybreak show, and was on a local broadcast during the week. In addition to those duties, Remish was handling on-air talent duties for high school football games at Scranton Memorial Stadium for Scranton and West Scranton high schools. Those games were broadcast live on Comcast by the student-run Audio Visual Club of the Scranton School District.

Even though Remish hadn’t been around as much at the office, there was still a horrible feeling on Monday morning as co-workers lost one of their own. But it’s more than just the station in Scranton that’s mourning, Remish was part of the sports media community for nearly 40 years and was part of Times Leaders high school football picks for a few seasons last decade.

His first job in sports came at Radio Station WTRN in Tyrone in 1973. He followed with a stint at WNBT in Wellsboro before returning to Scranton in 1977 working for WSCR and shortly after at WICK.
