John Feinstein’s national CBS Sports Radio late-morning program, which launched in early January of 2013, will end next month after Feinstein’s contract was not renewed.
Feinstein said he first realized that his job was in jeopardy a few months ago when a CBS Sports Radio exec told him that his stories slowed the program down too much. CBS Sports Radio was not yet available to comment this morning.
Feinstein — who continues to be a Washington Post contributor — originally signed a one-year contract with CBS, which was renewed for a second year. But he said “the handwriting was on the wall for a while” after a CBS executive told him that his lengthy stories about sports events and personalities “were slowing the show down.”
Feinstein will continue to appear weekly on WJFK 106.7 FM The Fan; he typically appears on the mid-day Grant and Danny program on Wednesdays, and on the Sports Junkies on Friday morning. Feinstein first talked about the end of his show on the Junkies Friday morning.
