Rob Astorino (WAER) |
Democrats continue to knock New York Republican gubernatorial
candidate Rob Astorino over his outside income, contending that he has a
conflict with accepting income from CCM+E's WOR 710AM.
Astorino's disclosure forms showed that he earned $30,000
last year as a consultant with Townsquare Media in Connecticut. Astorino also made less than $5,000 as a guest
host on WOR, his spokeswoman told the Journal News.
The Astorino Truth Squad -- the Democratic-backed group --
said Westchester County has had a $3.8 million contract with Clear Channel
Outdoor to advertise and maintain bus shelters through 2016.
"Rob Astorino went on the radio and declared that the
companies paying him had no business with the county. We now know that is
simply not true," Mike Morey, spokesman for the Astorino Truth Squad.
"One of the companies paying him secured a multi-million dollar contract
with the county. If that isn't a conflict of interest, I don't know what is."
Astorino said on John Gambling's radio show on WNYM 970 AM Monday that the criticism is ridiculous. He was a guest host on Gambling's
former show on WOR.
"When I guest hosted for you on that other radio
station, that was part of my outside income which is absolutely
permissible," Astorino said. "This is just the typical Democrat
demagoguery, and it’s okay for Andrew Cuomo to write a book on his free time
and make $750,000 doing it, but its not okay for me to use my expertise in the
radio industry to consult with a company that does no business with the
county."
