KS Radio: KKGQ Back On-Air, AMP-Rocking M Deal Is Off

Country KKGQ 92.3 FM, one of six Rocking M Media stations that went off the air last week, is back as of Monday.

Allied Media Partners, which had been operating the station under an LMA, doesn’t have anything to do with it, reports kansas.com.

In fact, AMP — which was going to buy the six stations — is no more.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have informed Allied Media Partners’ (AMP) staff that it is at an impasse with Rocking M Media,” said a statement from AMP CEO Matt Baty. “As a result, AMP will be closing its operations and terminating its staff effective immediately.”

In March, it was reported that Rocking M planned to sell KKGQ, which is known as Kansas Country, to Allied along with Wichita stations KIBB 97.1 FM, KVWF 100.5 FM and KWME, 92.7-FM. Also included in the deal was to be Wellington’s KLEY, 100.3 FM and 1130 AM and Winfield’s KKLE 1550 AM.

While the purchase was still pending, Allied had an operating agreement with Rocking M to run the stations.

Monte Miller of Salina-based Rocking M Media last week said the operating agreement ended without AMP coming up with $6.2 million to buy the stations.

Baty said AMP has the money plus more to operate the station but couldn’t close the deal because of Rocking M’s outstanding liens.

Envision, Inc. is the current licensee for KKGO. It is a not-for-profit in Wichita organization that promotes advocacy and independence for those who are blind or low vision. Q92 operations merged with Rocking M Media in April 2017.
