WWO News Offers Special “1968: Turn On, Tune In, Change Channels”

In 1968, “Mrs. Robinson,” “Hey Jude,” and “Classical Gas” blared from our radios; longtime hits like Gunsmoke and Here's Lucy found themselves challenged by newcomer Laugh-In on our TVs; and The Graduate, Planet of the Apes, and 2001: A Space Odyssey scored big at the box office. The music, the movies, and the TV of the time reflected the conflict and confusion that reigned across America during the tumultuous year of 1968, and also helped take our minds off it.

The pop culture shift in 1968 is still having an impact on us 50 years later. So during July 4th week, Westwood One News will explore the music, movies and TV shows of that pivotal year in “1968: Turn on, Tune in, Change Channels.” This half-hour news special, featuring archive audio and new analysis, will be available to all Westwood One News affiliates for the Fourth of July holiday and following weekend and also replace The Week in Review July 7-8.
