Philly Radio: RIFs Hit Greater Media Cluster

Nineteen staffers were laid off this week at Greater Media’s Philadelphia radio stations in what the company is calling a “restructuring of departments,” According to philly.com.

The layoffs were spread across all four of Greater Media’s Philadelphia stations: Rock WMMR 93.3 FM, Sports WPEN 97.5 FM, The Fanatic, Cassic Hits WMGK 102.9 FM and Adults Hits WBEN 95.7 FM. Nearly half the positions were part-time.

So far, there is no word if Greater Media’s five New Jersey radio stations were affected by the layoffs, which also hit the company’s Boston and Detroit properties.

In Philadelphia, WMMR was reportedly hit the hardest.  Managing director Sean “Rabbi” Tyszler and imaging director Steve Lushbaugh were among those affected by the layoff.

Rob Calvert, executive producer of “The John Debella Show” since 2007, was also let go.

Over at The Fanatic, the cuts were less severe. The sports station lost three part-timers: update anchor Damian Muziani and weekend hosts Joe Staszak and former Eagles offensive lineman Barrett Brooks, who currently co-hosts “Breakfast on Broad” on Comcast.
