Pew: Made-Up Election News A Concern For Many

A very large percentage of Americans (82%) say they are “very” or “somewhat” concerned about the potential impact of made-up news on the 2020 presidential election, with nearly half (48%) saying they are "very" concerned, according to data from Pew Research Center's Election News Pathways project

Older Americans, adults who follow political news more closely and those who display greater political knowledge are among the respondents most likely to be in this "very concerned" group.

Meanwhile, younger Americans, adults who don't follow election news closely, and those who have less political knowledge are less concerned about the influence of made-up news on the upcoming election.

The current analysis stems from a survey of 12,043 U.S. adults who are members of the Center’s American Trends Panel, conducted from Oct. 29 to Nov. 11, 2019.
