Nielsen Launches SiriusXM Listener Survey

Listening to SiriusXM Radio isn’t measured by Nielsen like thousands of local radio stations are. But the satellite broadcaster has used Nielsen from time to time to gather intelligence for programmers. On Monday Nielsen’s Consumer Insights North America division sent a group of SiriusXM subscribers a new email invitation to take an online survey, according to InsideRadio.

“Our survey is ready for you,” reads the all-caps headline just below the Nielsen logo. “Dear Respondent, SiriusXM is conducting a survey about your listening habits. The survey will only take 10 minutes to complete,” the opening pitch begins. “The survey is being hosted by Nielsen, an independent national marketing research firm. Your survey responses will be kept strictly confidential. The findings will be reported in aggregate only. Your email address or survey information will not be used for future marketing efforts.”

The communication explains that “your email address was provided to us by SiriusXM for the sole purpose of this study” and includes an unsubscribe option.

While the survey appears to be independent from Nielsen’s Audio division, with a 75,000-person PPM panel and tens of thousands more diary-keepers, it seems plausible that some SiriusXM subscribers receiving the invite are also radio ratings participants.
