Coverage of the terror attacks in San Bernardino gave both Fox News and CNN a bump in viewers for the week of Nov. 30. FNC was No. 1 in both prime time and total day viewers among all ad-supported cable networks. TV Newser reports FNC averaged 2.77 million viewers between 8-11 p.m. ET, beating ESPN’s NFL-heavy content.
According to Mediaite, Fox, CNN and MSNBC all had special coverage Sunday night for the president’s remarks on terrorism and gun control. On Fox in the 8 p.m. hour, Bret Baier anchored a special edition of Special Report for coverage and analysis of Obama’s remarks. Fox News ended up with a total of more than 3.3 million viewers and 695,000 in the 25-54 demo, very strongly beating out both CNN and MSNBC. CNN only got 1.7 million total and 536,000 in the demo, while MSNBC respectively got 861,000 and 160,000.
It’s the second time this year that FNC has ranked No. 1 in both prime time and total day, and marks the network’s second-highest-rated week of the year, behind only the week it hosted the first GOP debate, which logged a basic-cable non-sports record 24 million viewers that night. The only other time FNC has topped the weekly rankers in both metrics was the week of the Boston marathon bombing in April of 2013, reports Deadline.
