ABC News Radio Announces Doug Limerick's Retirement

After 33-years on ABC News Radio, Doug Limerick is retiring.

In a note to staffer today,  ABC News Radio VP/GM Steve Jones sent a note to staffers stated Limerick's last day is  Friday, December 18th. He's been has been an ABC News correspondent since 1982.

His radio career began in 1961, at WOHS 1390 AM in his hometown of Shelby, N.C. Limerick attended Wake Forest University, majoring in Speech and also working at the campus radio station. Following college, he joined the Air Force, hoping to land a job in radio or television, but ended up as a Russian linguist in England and Pakistan.

His interest in news developed and he landed his first news job with the Palmetto Radio Network in South Carolina.   He moved up morning to news anchor at WKIX, Raleigh, then on to WSGN, Birmingham, then four years at WBT, Charlotte.   In 1977, Doug headed north to Boston and WHDH before relocating to Washington and ABC’s WRQX in 1979.  Doug got his ultimate and final radio job in 1982 when he joined ABC News Radio.

Limerick has won many awards, including two Edward R. Murrow awards.

According to Jones,  Cheri Preston will move to mornings on Monday, January 4 to replace Doug.   "Cheri is a very familiar voice to our listeners and she will continue the ABC News Radio tradition of excellence in mornings."
