Over 5,500 Washingtonians gathered to cheer on USA next to The White House Tuesday afternoon for the much anticipated knockout round of the World Cup.  Freedom Plaza was the epicenter of D.C. soccer fandom as fans gathered to watch the game on a 20-foot screen on Pennsylvania Avenue.

WIAD 94.7 FM Fresh FM’s morning crew, Tommy McFly, Kelly and Jen, hatched a plan with the D.C. Government, Downtown D.C. Bid, Events D.C., Pepco, D.C. Water, D.C. United and other partners to create this massive event in an effort to support our country on its way to victory.

With less than 24 hours notice, Tommy and Kelly took to the airwaves on 94.7 Fresh FM and local TV stations to get the word out about the impromptu event. The turnout was insane and everyone was having a great time… until extra time, of course.

Either way, everyone is proud of how far USA went and can’t wait until World Cup 2018.
