Austin police on Tuesday charged a man with a felony after being alerted to Facebook messages they said threatened the staff of Classic Rock KLBJ 93.7 FM, including morning show host Dale Dudley from the morning show Dudley and Bob, according to The Austin Statesman.
Police charged Scott Jeremy Schuster, 38, with making a terroristic threat, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Schuster has not been arrested, police said.
He is accused of sending several threatening messages to KLBJ’s official Facebook account, an arrest affidavit said.
KLBJ staff first came into contact with Schuster on June 10 after he made derogatory comments about a woman who had recently won the station’s “Rock Girl” contest, the affidavit said.
Weeknight radio host Casey Morgan responded to Schuster’s comment asking why he felt he needed to make such comments. Schuster replied with what police called a verbal assault on Morgan, at one point threatening to “slap the hipster beard” off his face, the affidavit said.
The following morning on the Dudley and Bob show, staff located a work telephone number for Schuster and contacted him. Schuster agreed to come in live on the air to talk about his comments on the website, the affidavit said.
It turned ugly at one point with a heated on-air exchange between the hosts and Schuster. However, the conversation ended cordially and Schuster later that day exchanged friendly messages on the station’s Facebook page, the affidavit said.
The affidavit said Dudley became alarmed after seeing that Schuster’s Facebook page contained a picture of an assault rifle and the comment “Do you know what happened to Alan Berg?”
Dudley recognized the comment as a reference to a Denver radio personality murdered after he spoke out against white supremacists in 1984, the affidavit said. Dudley then contacted law enforcement, the affidavit said.
