Calgary Radio: CKMP/AMP Lost Ford Account Over Promotion

A controversial radio contest designed to get people talking may have backfired for CKMP 90.3 FM AMP.

Amp Radio has come under fire for its Bank It or Burn It promotion, which sees participants head to Facebook to vote on whether they should keep or burn money. Those who work at the station admit they thought respondents would vote to keep the $5,000—instead, 54 per cent voted to burn it during the first round of voting last week.

The result—and the fact that the station followed through on its promise and put the cash in the incinerator—incensed some Calgarians, who thought the money should have gone to charity instead, according to globalnews.com.

The stunt also didn’t go unnoticed by advertisers. Ford Canada confirmed to Global News that it had halted its contract with the station.

Ford would not reveal how much the contract had been worth.
