Golden Globe Awards: '12 Years A Slave' Top Movie

The 2014 Golden Globes got off to a rough start hours before the show even began. Early in the day on Sunday, the fire department was called to remove sewage that flooded part of the red carpet before the biggest names in Hollywood could come and show off their designer duds.

Things quickly turned around once hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took the stage.  The comedians added a playful tone to the night by taking jabs at the nominated actors and the films they starred in.

Jennifer Lawrence won the first award of the night as Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle. The film later went on to win Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. 12 Years A Slave took home the trophy for Best Motion Picture, Drama.

On the small screen, Breaking Bad ended its five-season run on a high note by nabbing awards for Best Drama Series and Bryan Cranston for Best Actor in a Drama. Freshman sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine proved to be a bit of a powerhouse by nabbing trophies for Best Comedy Series and a win for star Andy Samberg.

In addition to Tina and Amy as hosts, the evening proved that Saturday Night Live is still a great jumping off point for up and comers. Alums from the sketch comedy show turned out as both presenters and nominees including Samberg, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Will Forte.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Kevin Spacey revealed to Ryan Seacrest on E!'s red carpet that he sent Woody Allen a NetFlix subscription in the hopes of getting cast in one of his upcoming films.
