Ken Matthews |
Ken Matthews politics means he’ll fit nicely into the WHP
580 AM afternoon line-up, which already broadcasts Glenn Beck and Rush
Limbaugh.
Matthews is the new afternoon show host for the station,
replacing recently-retired Bob Durgin. Matthews' first broadcast was Tuesday.

"It's a little daunting just because Bob Durgin's a
market legend," Matthews told pennlive.com. "Anytime you take over a
show that has that level of respect and historic impact on the market there's
bound to be some nerves."
Matthews was fighting nerves even before he got the job on
Aug. 26. The station held weeks of on-air auditioning for candidates for the
host spot.
When he finally heard the
news, Matthews said he was "extremely thrilled."
"I was very energized," he went on. "Really,
from a broadcast standpoint, it's an honor to be in that company of people."
As for what listeners can expect from the program, Matthews
plans on following the standard format from Durgin's days but with a few
change-ups.
"My show is going to be where politics, pop culture and
people all kind of overlap," he said, "It'll be things that impact
peoples lives in the listening area. Sometimes it'll be political, sometimes
it'll be something local that happened."
