According to WKYT-TV, WGKS KISS FM 96.9 in Paris, KY was off the air
Tuesday for six hours after copper thieves broke into the station's tower.
Lynn Martin, president and CEO of LM Communications answered
calls this morning explaining to listeners why KISS FM was not on the air.
The thieves not only knocked the station off the air for
over six hours, but caused more than $30,000 in damages.
"It's hard to understand why people would go out and
try to steal cooper for the few bucks that they can get by going and selling it
on the used market, " Martin said. "We have security and all but they still manage to hack
saw their way into the building because they want to steal a little bit of this
copper," said Martin.
This isn't the first time LM Communications has been a
victim of this sort of crime, another one of their stations was knocked off the
air last year
