NFL Great Phil Simms Rejoins NBC Sports As Game Analyst

Phil Simms

Phil Simms, a two-time Super Bowl champion and former New York Giants quarterback, has returned to NBC Sports as a college football analyst for the 2025 season.

He will serve as a color commentator for select Big Ten football games exclusively on Peacock, starting with the Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Western Illinois Leathernecks on August 29, 2025, followed by Miami (OH) at Rutgers on September 6, 2025. A third game is to be announced later.

Simms will work alongside play-by-play announcer Paul Burmeister, with whom he has a long-standing professional relationship.

Simms, who previously worked at NBC from 1995 to 1998, called Super Bowls XXX and XXXII and contributed to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics as a weightlifting announcer and NBA sideline reporter. After a 26-year tenure at CBS Sports, where he was a lead NFL analyst and studio host on The NFL Today until his contract expired in 2023, Simms expressed excitement about returning to NBC, stating, “I am very happy to be working again for NBC Sports doing college football games.”

His son, Chris Simms, is also an analyst for NBC’s NFL and college football coverage, making this a family reunion of sorts.

This new role follows Simms’ recent ventures, including calling Giants preseason games in 2024 and working as a radio analyst for select Thursday Night Football games on Westwood One, such as the Cowboys-Giants matchup in September 2024. Simms has also been focusing on his podcast, Simms Complete, with his son Matt, and continues to mentor quarterbacks and contribute to football media.
