NewsNation: A Growing Cable News Network

While established networks like CNN have faced steep audience drops, NewsNation, a four-year-old network in its first year of 24/7 programming, has seen gains in total viewership and the 25-54 demographic.

From August 4–8, NewsNation’s primetime focused on Ukraine’s drone warfare, led by anchor Sherman, culminating in the special Ukraine: On the Frontlines. The network is also providing extensive live coverage of the Trump-Putin summit, with correspondents in Alaska and Ukraine, and analysis from The Hill’s Chris Stirewalt. Its app and website offer continuous updates alongside newsletters from Sherman and host Leland Vittert.

This dedication to in-depth international stories reflects NewsNation’s tagline, News for All Americans.

Owned by Nexstar, the network leverages a national staff and 110 local newsrooms, securing exclusives like calling the 2024 presidential election for Trump and covering the Kohberger plea deal.

Nielsen data shows a 24% year-over-year primetime viewership increase, with daytime shows like Morning in America, NewsNation Now, and NewsNation Live achieving triple-digit growth in the 25-54 demo. Cuomo leads as the top-rated program, while The Hill and On Balance with Leland Vittert also see audience growth.

In July, NewsNation was the only cable news network with Total Day growth.

Since December 2022, NewsNation has outpaced MSNBC in the key demo for Total Day viewership multiple times.

Forbes reports it earned its first Edward R. Murrow Award last week for Natasha Zouves’ investigation, Growing Broke: Forever Chemicals in America’s Heartland, exposing fertilizer-related contamination of farmland and the food supply.
