Drew Lane |
Longtime Detroit radio
personality Drew Lane
is set to return to the Motor
City airwaves, according
to Greater Media Detroit, which operates WRIF-FM 101.1, WCSX-FM 94.7 and
WMGC-FM 105.1.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Greater Media will
offer more details about Lane’s future at a news conference scheduled for 11
a.m. Monday.
Meanwhile, a source who is familiar with the situation but
not authorized to speak publicly told the Free Press that Lane is headed for
WMGC, which will switch its format from adult contemporary to sports talk and
become an ESPN Radio affiliate. Lane, the source said, will host a 3-7 p.m.
afternoon show starting Monday.
The switch would pit WMGC against sports talk leader WXYT-FM
97.1, the Ticket and two AM sports outlets.
In May, Lane and Mike Clark, hosts of the popular “Drew
& Mike” morning show on WRIF, were replaced after 22 years on the air. Dave
Hunter and Charles Urquhart, hosts of the “Dave & Chuck the Freak” show on
CIMX-FM 88.7, took over the WRIF morning show in late May.
