Eric Bushman |
Dallas was “Ground Zero” for Bushman’s story, and Bushman was lead reporter from start to finish on the story. This is the second consecutive year for Bushman to receive an Edward R. Murrow Award for his reporting. Last year, Bushman received a Murrow Award for his comprehensive coverage of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Bushman began his broadcasting career in his hometown of Ottawa, Kansas, while still in high school. He then spent eight years reporting for KMBZ in Kansas City, covering local, regional and national news, including the 2008 Political Conventions and the last days of the U.S. Space Shuttle program at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. His work in Kansas City was recognized many times with awards from the Missouri Broadcasters’ Association and the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. Bushman, a passionate student of U.S. Presidential history, joined the news team at WBAP-AM in Dallas-Fort Worth in 2012, after frequent visits to Dallas to study the Kennedy assassination. He currently covers news in Dallas and Collin Counties for WBAP.
The Radio Television Digital News Association has honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the excellence that American broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the electronic news profession. Murrow’s pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name.
Tyler Cox, Operations/Program Manager for WBAP-AM said: “Eric’s work represents the type of reporting that is the signature of the WBAP news staff: comprehensive, in-depth, and sticking with the story from start-to-finish.”
