New Season Launching For 'Gone South' Podcast

The fifth season of Audacy’s “Gone South” – the Edward R. Murrow Award-winning original investigative franchise written and hosted by Jed Lipinski – will launch on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, everywhere podcasts are available. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays throughout the season. Listen to the first episode and follow the show here.

The true crime juggernaut has been a fixture on the top podcast charts, bringing in 20 million downloads to date. In its fifth season, “Gone South” returns with another 40 weekly episodes rooted in the American South. But this time, the scope is wider than crime alone.

Through deeply reported, narrative-driven episodes and probing interviews with journalists, historians, musicians, and people who’ve lived these stories firsthand, writer and host Jed Lipinski explores the myths, power structures, and legacies that continue to shape the South—and, by extension, the country. From re-examining the cultural meaning of the Alamo, to tracing the family history of Alex Murdaugh, to investigating the federal indictment of New Orleans’ former Mayor, each episode stands alone while contributing to a larger portrait of a region defined by contradiction, belief, and consequence.

Jed Lipinski is the award-winning writer and producer behind Hulu’s “Fyre Fraud” and the hit Netflix docuseries “The Pharmacist” and “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal.” A former contributing writer for The New York Times, he spent four years covering crime and other topics for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, where his investigative reporting received first-place awards from Press Club of New Orleans, the Society for Features Journalism, the Associated Press and the Edward R. Murrow Foundation.
