Wake-Up Call: 3 UVA Football Players Shot Dead

Three University of Virginia football players were shot dead and two others were wounded in a shooting on the school’s campus in Charlottesville. A former team member has been charged with the crime. The dead students were identified as Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Junior and D’Sean Perry. The attack occurred on a bus that had just returned to the campus from a class trip to Washington D.C.
Four University of Idaho students were found dead Sunday night in a house near the campus. Police in the town of Moscow said the deaths are being investigated as homicides but provided no other information.

Fox News reports The Washington Post took heat Monday for the outlet's initial headline for a story about the suspected University of Virginia shooter, who is accused of killing three people and injuring at least two others Sunday night. The 22-year-old suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., is a UVA student and former college football player and is now in custody, the police said Monday.

In its initial post, the Washington Post tweeted that the suspect had a "troubled childhood, but then flourished," and the accompanying story had the same headline. The outlet deleted the tweet, but the headline still appeared on the PostLocal account. It then changed the headline to, "Suspected U-Va. gunman was scrutinized by threat assessment team for weapon, police say."

REPUBLICANS ON VERGE OF HOUSE MAJORITY: As the vote counts from last week’s midterms grind on, the Republicans are just one seat short of the 218 needed to reach a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressional races in two California districts and one upstate New York district were called for Republicans yesterday. Democrats got enough victories to get a majority in the U.S. Senate, although two races are still undetermined.

The increase is due to the increased number of bookings, but also due to inflation and generally higher prices. Study analyst Vivek Pandya adds, “We expect the momentum to carry through the holiday season, even as prices remain elevated above pre-pandemic levels.” And if you’re waiting until the last minute to book in hopes that prices will drop, don’t get your hopes up too high.
